I cut a corner really bad today...on purpose. Pulled out to make a tight right-hand turn, and was going to need to take the oncoming lane to make the turn. But just as I committed to the turn, had an idiot come FLYING around the corner coming the other way, going at least twice the speed limit. I pulled the rig back over to the right too early to not run over the curb. Barely missed the other car coming.

I felt that the situation called for cutting the curb as a safer option than risking what I thought would be a head-on collision for sure. However, the DPS officer testing me for my CDL felt differently. Pulled me over right there and failed my driving test right on the spot. :biggrin_25510: Guess if I can run into the guy, I would have passed???

Agreed, if possible. But had to yank it out of his lane first, and by then was out of position. I'm not mad about it anymore, and in the real world (vs. DPS/DMV world) probably would have done the same thing. Oh well...

wow, this thread is full of laughs. I got some advice from a few veteran drivers recently, and one sentance I'll never forget is "take every turn as if it's the worst you've ever taken."

I just spoke to notarps... He is in the Indy area & is willing to come to that intersection to see if he can turn that corner with out running over the sidewalk...

The only stipulation is that he wants you there standing on the curb looking down to see if he hits the curb....

I bet I could make that turn with this load. And never touch the curb.
Kingpin setting is at about 50' Trailer streatched to 68'. Load is 72' long.
Had to deliver that sucker in Baltimore. Some mighty fun streets there.
