    Honestly, I don't need it... but it makes things way easier with what I do. You wouldn't think 3 inches per side would make a difference because I didn't either, but it does. Once you get into steel coils over 43k or so and less than 50in wide, they take up a lot of space side to side when loaded shotgun. The 102 gives me more room to maneuver around it without falling off the edge. When loading any coil suicide over 48in wide, you start running into spacing issues for binders, plus not having room to get around the coil to move up or down the trailer floor. Add a sidekit into the mix and that's another obstacle thats easier to work around when loaded with the extra 6in of width.

    I'm sorry if that's not really explanatory, but it's the best I can do. Honestly, its easy to understand once you've done it with both a 96 and 102.

    Jersey is good for that, or was at least.

    The first time the smoke police grabbed me was almost 20 years ago with a Scania, coming off exit 5 of the NJTP.

    Not to worry, I get it and I appreciate the explanation.

    I’ve never hauled coils before and didn’t realize the spacing for binders was an issue on 96” trailers. I thought the excess tare weight would’ve been more of a concern.

    I've noticed im getting thicker in the middle versus younger years.

    My only reason for 102" is my waist and I kinda want to be able to strap down a palletized load inside of a sidekit.

    Believe it or not, my 102 isn't any heavier. If it is, its only a couple hundred lbs. My 96 wide was a 1999 big bubba and the 102 is a 2008 big bubba with a coil package to boot. The suspensions are different, but i can't figure out how its not heavier than it is otherwise.

    So all aluminum mac 45x102 is only 1000 pounds lighter that my 42x96 steel aluminum combo thats antique at best.

    Disadvantage for weight is mine don't have abs ecm. Or Abs.

    I prefer no abs.

    That sounds about average from what I've heard and researched. Not that my 32000lb light weight is anything to brag about, but I think an aluminum trailer with the extra crossmembers and such is still ahead of the combo. At least you have a light tractor in your favor. My wagon has all the abs and crap, the truck pulling it doesn't though. Lol. It seems that for 5 years now, I've been too lazy to run a wire to the trailer plug too. :rolleyes:
