Detroit's output to my Data Star is dead accurate for fuel burn. I depend on it far more than the fuel gauge. I know in the past, some manufacturers systems were as unreliable as you point out. But Detroit has it figured out.

As long as I fuel in the same place, so the slope at the island is the same, it's within a gallon over a tank of fuel.

Werner driver did nothing wrong, in fact every investigator said there was nothing he could have done to avoid the accident once the pick up crossed the median.

Yet Werner got hit with a $90 million judgement. Now imagine Werner had an overweight scale ticket - the lawyers would have had a field day.

 

Move 5th wheel 1 notch forward and go. Simple.
Of course, the driver has already left Laredo and will probably deliver today or tomorrow, so the solutions are moot.
And to those who are worried about getting a $90 million dollar lawsuit for being 100 # over on a trailer axle, well best see if your local McDonald's is hiring. You sound to afraid to leave out the front gate.

You compared on paper cause last i knew there is no fuel burn meter built into any truck,its all a guess from what the trucks ecu edtamates..

 

Do you mean the ECU that’s controlling how much fuel is being injected into the engine? I’d say it has a pretty good idea on what’s being burned.

 

It seems like the driver thought he was stuck because he was over on drives and tandems and seemed unaware of how to fix it. Obviously in this case it's only 100 or 200 lbs., no big deal. But clearly he needs a little advice on how to transfer weight. Next time it might be 1 or 2 thousand over, and now he will know how to fix it.

 

This doesn’t prove anything, you can use one case and say that’s how every case will turn out.
The fact is the burden of proof would be on the Tesla driver to explain and prove how the extra 100 pounds was the reason for the crash rather than their inattentiveness.

 

Or the blame could be the tesla software.

Apparently it's not perfect.
