melfry don't listen to the recruiters, go to the company and check them out, I have never worked for TMC but like their equipment and some of their drivers I have talked to seem to be happy and a few were not, but that is with every company. Most recruiters get a bonus for bodies and not saying company's tell their recruiters to lie to get those bodies in trucks but I worked for a company once and the recruiter was lying to get drivers and making good commissions, but some of the drivers were pissed after orientation or trucking for a short time and this got back to the owner and he called the recruiter one day inquiring about a driving job , after the conversation he went down stairs and fired him.

I usally talk to a recruiter first then go to the company headquarters and visit and ask alot of questions. Check out operations, training, equipment and shop and ask to meet the owner.

What I hate is the companys using third party recruiters some lazy couch potato who is working from their mobile home and too lazy to get a real job so they contract to trucking companys and hire drivers for them. They have never been to the company and just now enough to get you hired and most of the time it is lies. Most of the adds they run have no company name in the ad because they contract to several companys.

    How do you check a company's ISS-2?

I am new to this information thread. I am currently enrolled in a truck driving school. We just had a visit from a recruiter. Then, I found this site. After reading about TMC, I am very confused! Some postings say TMC is the worst while others say it is a great company. I know some folks probably have had a raw deal while others have not. Would someone help me? I'm in the process of starting to apply for a driving job. I DON'T want to make a mistake!!!

I've been reading through some of the TMC threads as well. It appears to me that TMC has improved over the past short while. Keep searching the threads here. I think they would be an okay place to start out, from what I've read here.
Check out Maverick as well. They are a similar company.

Well, given the good and bad listed on this thread, I've decided to go ahead and give TMC a try. I start in a couple weeks.

My only fear is that I'll get a trainer who will try and push me to do illegal stuff, which is not going to happen by the way. I worked too hard getting my CDL to let some trainer push me into losing it. I know myself and I'm likely to get pretty disgusted with a trainer who doesn't treat me with professionalism. Might find myself walking home. :~)

    Wish me luck.

    best,
    melfry

The trainer may not push him, but chances are a dispatcher will after he gets his own truck.
