First of all, nobody can hold your truck up by locking it to the dock.
If you let people force you to sit because of that, then that one's on you.
Second, yes...if more drivers said "screw this, I'm leaving" than these shippers would get their act together and get trucks loaded/unloaded and rolling down the highpayhighway.
But drivers put up with the BS and hide all the unpaid waiting time in their logbooks and then run hot to make up for all the delays.
Which is why the abuse continues.
    You're calling me stupid?
I'm not the one sitting around for free.
I'm paid for every hour I'm on the job.
And I don't let these shippers jerk me around.
So now who's the stupid one?
    :withstupid:

I've had a couple loads recently where the receiver didn't feel like unloading me. The last one, they were unconcerned until I started backing out of their parking lot. They ran over to tell me that the supervisor, who had gone home, told them not to unload me until monday. This was friday evening. I told them that I had another load of our product waiting, that under federal law their refusal to unload constituted a declaration of non payment for transport services rendered, and therefore the load was legally mine to recoup my costs. I would just have the loader at our jobsite drag it off on the ground and we'd figure out what to do with it later. They decided to unload me.

Technically, it was nothing but a good bluff and it's nice to have a boss that backs me up when I have to pull something like that. I figure even if it doesn't work, at least I tried.

why didnt you just bobtail to the jack in the box 100 yds down the road to wait. There arent any showers there, but there is a convienance store and jack in the box fast food there with plenty of room to park the truck. Security would call you when your load was ready if you ask them to.

Cuz I'm not the driver, hubby is. He is rather passive, and will just wait it out.
Which is probably a good thing, because I am a bit of a hot-head when it comes to things like this....

Although, it probably WOULD be easier on him if he would just go ahead and deal with these knuckle-heads....instead, he chooses to listen to ME gripe... for hours...and in one case, DAYS!! :biggrin_2551::biggrin_2559:

We played the waiting game in Scranton AR the other day too. Thing is, they were broke down. 19 hours later we got loaded. Gets pretty old sitting in the truck waiting for that call over channel 1. Tyson doesn't have courteous security anywhere I've been with hubby. They could give a crap how long you wait in the lot for your load. We had to make several phone calls to find out they were having electrical problems. Why can't they just tell you this, so you have a choice where to sit?

We have a fridge, micro and toaster oven in the truck, just because of places like this. But honestly the thing that really got my goat........ I walked to the office to use the facilities, I'm finishing up washing my hands and someone rattles the door, like they couldn't hear that I was in there. No knock, just shaking the handle. I open the door and this large female security guard just scowls at me. UGH!!! Like we don't have to pee too??? Sheesh.

BHW, on the bright side, durring the wait, at least you should have had some time with hubby

I think in the last two years, I've hauled chickens MAYBE twice, and the last time I hauled chickens my wife was with me. As with every chicken plant, it's sit and wait, so we had "time to kill" (use your imagination)....and this happened in Cummins Georgia, I chitt you not!!!!

I used to drive for Trans Am BHW and one of our biggest customers was IBP, which of course is now Tyson. I told our VP that the wait time got horrible after Tyson took them over and of course he argued with me all day that that was false, I didn't know what I was talking about. So I started documenting it and showed him 2 months later and of course what did he say this time? "You made those times up. They're not true." I asked him well we have satellites, why not look it up?

Of course he wouldn't do that. So Tyson is notorious for holding you up for long periods of time and from what I have heard it's gotten even worse than when it was when I left Trans Am in 03.
