I just checked the website for Flying J. I looked under the restuarant section and then I looked under the FAQ section and saw nothing in either section about turning the current Country Market restuarants into Denny's, IHOP's or whatever (such as Subway) ...
So, I sent the restuarant division this e-mail ...
Subject:
The fate of the Country Market Restuarants ...
Body of the E-Mail:
As of March 2010, will all Country Market buffets be taken down and replaced with off the menu Denny's or IHOP restuarants at all Flying J locations?
Thanks.
Pilots plans for Flying J restaurants

I'll be curious to see what their reply is. As I said in the first post this is what a woman at Pilot Corporate told me. She could be wrong.

Wow, talk about a fast response (in about two hours) from Flying J ... here's the answer I just got a few minutes ago ... (October 6, 2009) ...
"Flying J is looking to franchise all of the restaurants in all travel
plazas. This process is ongoing and in negotiations. The dates are not
firm nor have their been any final offers or contracts signed.
Take Care,"
And here's my response to the Flying J quick response ...
"I kinda had that hunch things would change.
For what it's worth, I have always liked the buffets (with the exception of some of the food offerings) at the Flying J and am sad that they will probably go away.
I guess its me trying to hold back the ocean but I wish things could stay the way they are with the buffets.
Thanks for the quick response".Last edited: Oct 7, 2009
Native Dancer and Baack Thank this. -
Breakfast is my preferred meal-out of the day, so I welcome both Denny's and IHOP.
Better get some bigger pants, though....
-
I agree ! Both restuarants are very good at breakfast. My pants size is already 54x30; so I hope it doesn't get any bigger !
Here's an idea that just occured to me ...
What about installing Waffle House or Huddle House inside Flying J's? If that does happen, then, the stand alone Waffle House at Ruther Glen / Carmel Church, Virginia; caddy corner from the Flying J would have to close to be reborn inside the Flying J at that location.Last edited: Oct 7, 2009

You know, one of the best things about the J restaurants is that they offer some good healthy food choices. Not tasteless grilled chicken, but good tasting options. I like to get their grilled salmon with the veggie of the day and steamed broccolli as sides. Their honey mustard chicken is good, too. Good eating, and I don't leave the table feeling stuffed and bloated. I think we drivers wanting healthy options were finally starting to get through to the people creating the menus. IMO, it'll be a shame to lose that.

I agree with you but I'm sure you're aware that maybe with the exception of Subway, Pilot doesn't care about healthy choices. One of the reasons they put fast food in darn near every one of their travel centers... they want you to get your fuel, get your sandwich, and move on down the road.MUSTANGGT, simplyred1962 and HFC Thank this.

Yeah, I'm aware

That's why I'm not happy about Pilot messing with the J restaurants. -
There is a Denny's in the Mount Vernon, IL Pilot. The staff their was very good and restaraunt clean. Seemed like a good mix of both local & truck drivers inside. Hope that is how it works out if this goes through.
Only had the buffet at J once down in FL. There is a reason it was only one time too.HFC Thanks this. -
I've been fortunate and had good eating experiences at flying j.
Oh well......life rolls on.HFC Thanks this.
