To make a decent wage you have to do more than drive the truck in Florida. So yes Food Service and LTL companies are your best bet. I can't do the physical work so I do OTR to make a decent living.
Jmelendez1223 Thanks this. -
Oh cool so you a OP ? And if so what are the pros and cons

Some Davenport drivers work the railyard off hwy 60. JB Hunt and Schneider work it as well as a handful of outfits that drive clunkers.

I work for a very small fleet owner operator (3 trucks). There are several small fleet outfits around with 10 or so trucks that mostly run OTR. Several midsize and large companies hire for OTR down here. We're leased onto Leonard's Express but Leonard's Express also hires company drivers. We like them.Speed_Drums and Jmelendez1223 Thank this.

For me the negative for working for a small owner-op is no benefits. But the positives are I'm paid Hub miles, a lot of liberty on how long I'm out and how long I'm home and where I run. I have my medical through the VA so it works for me.

I always loved driving in Florida when I was OTR.

Pristine roads, no major grades, zero snow, better speed limits. Exact opposite of the northeast.Badmon and Jmelendez1223 Thank this.
