It may be a choice to work without brokers but at some point is just easier to use them as is. I mean, not much you can do about signing/agreeing with what they have on the broker-carrier agreement or rate con. It is always about either you take a load or not.
So far, I've never been fined or my patience too much abused but if I wanted my way, none of the broker-carrier agreements I signed, should have been signed in the first place. I realize that I signed things that can bite me in the butt bad when things go wrong. More or less every broker has such things on their contract.... So, on principle I agree with op, but I do realize that the postulates have little bearing, at least in the scope of load board freight.
Had it up to here....

Lot of crying about the Brokers, What about the Carriers that are taking loads for the advertised rate? As long as the Broker gets the loads covered for the "low" rate that's what will be offered.

I don't deal with brokers.Broker = Bend over.

- "Why so much?
- Because the carrier has the trucks, employees and liability. Non asset based brokers have little to no clue as to the cost of operating a truck and they always want to quote "Market Rates" Brokers have destroyed and distorted the "MARKET" rate.
- Is that the best that you can do?
- NO. this is the worst that I can do. Add another 15% for my best.
- That's all that I have in it.
- Yeah, you're doing it for free because the shipper is SOOOOO good to you. Right? Lets work for free. The broker shipper relationship is not a factor in carrier rating.
- That's all that my customer is willing to pay.
- A couple of thoughts on this. More than likely, brokers have $100 - $700 of commish in the load. That should be gong to the carrier anyway.
- I'm going to loose money on this because I was supposed to have it covered but the (cheap) carrier that I had on it fell off of it.
I don't care about either of those when dealing with a broker. Here is my rate. Am I sometimes flexible, yes but not desperate.
Lastly, CRYING??? We are not crying, we are stating facts based on experiences and years in the industry. YOU would be crying if it were not for carriers and OO's because without them, you are nothing more than an answering service. You had better recognize your place on the food chain.
Imagine if every truck in the U.S refused to pickup brokered freight for 48 hours. You'd be done.
Imagine if the FMCSA went after every double brokered load in the U.S., most brokers would be broke or in jail.Spartan101, Dave_in_AZ, Lite bug and 6 others Thank this. - "Why so much?

OP...LOL....You wonder why brokers exist? Because of difficult drivers/company owners like yourself. Brokers deal with the customer's that keep you rolling and in business. That broker won your business from that customer because he is probably A LOT easier to deal with than yourself and your bitter ### attitude (probably why the broker won't deal with you anymore as well). Customers require paperwork/PODs to pay, no paperwork equals NO PAY. That customer went with a broker rather than dealing directly with the drivers because it is such a hassle and they do not want to deal with it. They have ONE contact to call when paperwork is missing or a delivery is late. They don't have to chase down dispatchers ignoring phone calls, lying drivers on late deliveries, language barriers, etc. There is no reason you/your driver cannot snap a quick picture right when he gets the POD signed and send it to you and you send it to the broker or sends it directly to the broker himself. I cannot tell you how many times I'm assured of a delivery time, or that a driver is on site only to find out they're 2 hours away. These "fines" and notes on rate cons exists for a reason....LAZY, DIFFICULT drivers. As someone else mentioned, you don't like brokers, then find your own business and quit whining. You're just bitter because they took your business.

There is just as much bad on the broker's site. Some are mischievous scoundrels waiting for a occasion to screw you with no mercy. That's why I'd rather deal with big brokers because I hope that they uphold standards, if not at the agency level then at some corporate - there will someone with reason. I will never
deal with Landstar agents - double brokering cheats.
Yes, I guess your existence is justified as long as someone wants to pay you money. There is no argument to that.
As far as I am concerned, I would not shed a tear if someone like you went out of business replaced by a guy with a truck or two.
BTW: They want the POD within 24 hours, or tracking 24/7 then why 3% on a quick pay or 30-60 days to pay?Qbf594, Dave_in_AZ, rollin coal and 4 others Thank this.
