This is a example of a uninformed response. It cost Roehl more to use a student to move frieght than a solo driver. When a student is involved the trainer is making his current CPM for every mile the student drives plus up to $65 a day for having a student in his truck. Roehl also pays that student up to $65 a day. So it cost Roehl over $100 more a day to use a student to deliver frieght. Is it possible that the person just couldn't drive? I don't someone that fails a backing test trying to back next to my truck late at night at a pilot. I am sure Roehl doesn't want to pay for all the damage a driver can cause by not being able to back. Just maybe some people ain't cut out to drive.
EXCUSE ME!!! I KNOW HOW TO DRIVE AND BACK!!! You do not know me and I do not care to have an insinuation made concerning my skills. $100 a day is still cheaper when you figure money saved by Roehl on insurance, bonus, etc. Oh and my MPG was always over 7, no idle time, no over speed. I wish you well with Roehl and I hope you get everything you want.
Guys...geez.. This sucks. Someone lost their job here and from what I believe, it was unjust. I don't know the details either but it seems plausible that this termination was a SCAM.... My wife loads/unloads trailers and most of the drivers are from Schneider. Many take 45mins to back up to the dock and if you just line it up right to begin with you can straight back right in. It got so bad one day that the warehouse foreman offered to go out and back the truck up for the guy. What happened here with Roehl though, should be of serious concern to any new driver...at the very least, one red flag. I am very curious as to how often this happens... -H
Why exactly should this be a concern to any new driver? If a tester passes a driver who skills are questionable I personally would not want him testing anyone. I am not saying CORKY has bad skills. I don't want any driver in a 80,000lb vehicle with questionable skills on the road with my family. It ain't a scam, these testers have alot of responsibilities. IT AIN"T NO CONSPIRACY...
We don't have any knowledge of this guys abilities....But I still think if it looks like a duck and acts like a duck, it's likely a duck. I have heard crap like this from other drivers..his case is not unique. I'm not saying its a conspiracy, but it has happened more than just one time out there and with various companies. Drivers that did great in school...Great with a trainer and 'suddenly' seem to have an issue with the last road test administered by the SAME company....the SAME company that said they did OK after initial school. In the last case I know of (personally) the guy could drive great. One of the top accredited trucking schools in IL tested him soon after. He did a great job. Sadly, he is unemployed and faced with owing the trucking company almost $6k. He passed all of the parts of the companies training program until the very last driver's test before being assigned a rig.. I suppose one sure way of dealing with this is to attend a private accredited school (after doing your research) and then go to work for a company... If this only happened to one guy one time, I wouldn't have raised an eyebrow...
On at least 2 occasions I was sitting parked at a truckstop and got out to help another Roehl driver back in. And these were not difficult spots to back into. I couldnt believe that these guys were running solo. Anyway, testers will sometimes cut someone because they have been told to do it to someone because they hired on to many at once, Or it could be they feel your more of a health insurance liability. So try not to be offended Mycorky. Roehl is no top notch carrier, they just like to pretend they are.
