i bought one of those 4 cup 12v makers when i started out, did not like it took to long to brew.

took it out of my truck, now i have a electric one that runs off the inverter, much better wayto go for me.

I went through a few of those. I didn't have an inverter at the time. Not only slow, they seem to burn up rather quickly.
    Mr.Coffee has a nice 4 cup(which is about 2 real cups)model that I find to be ideal.

I read in another thread that they can't withstand the vibration and don't last very long.

I looked at a few at wally world that don't have the carafe, which to me would be ideal for a truck. Don't have to worry about breaking a glass carafe in your sleeper going down the road. We haven't tried one yet, because I discovered the coffee "tea bags" that work well in the microwave. Coffee isn't bad at all, tastes brewed, so I doubt that we will investing in one any time soon.

Have to try that. If you are satisfied with them, that sure beats the hassle and cleanup of tending to a coffee pot.

Another option is instant coffee if you have a microwave. To me it is an "acquired" taste but Bill got used to it really quick and we didn't have to deal with the mess of the coffee pot anymore. Also in our experience the coffee pots that run off the big inverter are far superior to the ones you can buy at truck stops that plug into the cig lighters.

Probably not enough. I just looked at Mr Coffee here at home and it is 900 watts.
The smaller capacity brewers generally draw just as much power.
If you ever get a 1500 you can handle just about anything, plus the convenience of using more that one appliance at the same time.
When in doubt, look at the sticker on whatever you're thinking about using.

To get the proper size inverter look on the back of the appliance you are going to buy. There is a an information plate riveted or molded into the plastic. It should have the volts, wattage and amperage guide. The watts is what you want. You want to add the watts of the things you will be running in the truck. Laptop if you are like me stays on the whole time I'm awake so add it to your coffee pot,and TV if you have one. Those things you will use at the sme time The microwave you might want you wouldn't want to run at the same time as the coffee maker! But what ever the HIGHEST wattage rated appliance you have is the minimum size inverter you want to buy.

Most coffee makers that I have looked at started at 890 watts and went as high as 1500 . My favorite coffee maker was the old style Black and Decker Space Savers under cabinet mounting style which I loved as all you had to do was pull out the coffee holder and the water tray to fill it up with. The grounds holder was excellent for getting to your trash can with little mees! All the others you had to move around just to put the water in! You can make as little or as much coffee as you want with them also! I would fill the water tray up to a mark I had put on the side of the tray which was exactly how much water my thermos would take INCLUDING the sugar! No waste! I figured out the mark by putting the tray on the "desk" in my FL and putting the proper amount of sugar in the thermos and then filling it up with water and then putting the water in the water tray and then using a gold ink marker put the lines on the tray on 4 sides.

Some one said about the glass craft breaking. I haven't broken one yet and I've been using them for over 8 years now in the truck! Just drill a hole big enough for a small bungie cord to go across the pot and you're safe from if sliding off! Also dont drive like you're at Daytna in the turns!

One hint: Do NOT make coffee while moving! It splashes out!
