You can keep more of your paycheck by moving to a state with no state income tax. But, you have to like where you live, so sometimes that's not a high priority.

@diamondd817 With all of these linehaul companies being mentioned, I’d recommend looking into living in the area I mentioned, Greer, Duncan, Greenville, Spartanburg. These LTL carrier’s have terminals rather close so your commute at the end of the day is minimal.

You should be able to get an idea on real estate and potential employment.

What kind of hours do you need to put in for that 80-100k? Are these line haul jobs hourly or per mile pay?

I don't know. I've never done that; I'm an OTR guy, by choice.
@KaoMinerva can fill you in on pay. I think he's around $100K now.

Come on out to Las Vegas or Reno; those same LTL companies have terminals here also.

You may make a little less but remember, if you are living in NYC or one of the 5 boroughs of NY, you save money on tolls, rent, insurance and registrations, gas, state income taxes, jackets. So you should be okay. I grew up in Queens, I won’t ever go back there again.

    Chinatown Thanks this.
