Coming into trucking/LTL recently, I thought for sure that Linehaul was where I wanted to be. Now that I’ve been P&D for a bit, I can say that a P&D route with an hour or so of window-time each way to get to and from the route is my preference. The mix of doing about 15-20 stops with a few hrs of straight driving is perfect.
Should I switch to P&D?

I had 2 1/4 hours one way today with the 1st stop of 15 off at 830, and empty 3 hours later.

P&D in my area is hourly,,,time and half after 8 hours. It’s a personal choice,,,less money but then no dodging moose and “talibans” on the Line Haul as I do....Most our P&D’s stay put as they get comfortable...I can see their point.

Today I dropped/hooked a load for the folks overseas (fitting for the holiday) just a few miles from the yard. Then came back and grabbed a route with 7 stops about an hour away. The routing was jacked and a few places were closed due to the holiday, so a lot of “wasted” time. Then I did 5 pick-ups. I had a radioactive 7 on board all day too, so I had the pleasure of stopping at all 1,000,000 RR crossings that I crossed. 12 hours today, gotta love O/T after 8!
