    Hey everyone!

    UPDATE:

So I called the recruiting manager at Swift yesterday, and was told "I hadn't forgotten about you. I was in a meeting, I'm sorry about that" She was very kind like she had always been, but I still was told that I had to wait until I was 23, since their policy had changed. By the time I was told that, I had to be transferred to someone a little higher up the ladder. When I call, I will usually only call twice, and if I don't get anyone after that, I'll just leave a message and leave it be until I get a response.

But it's ok. I did end up putting an application into Drivers Solutions through P.A.M., since I had heard some mildly good things. Can't be too picky with who will bring you on in these times, like some of you have stated, since, yes, they have the right to be very picky. I only hope the recruiter doesn't say USA Truck has put up an offer. I may just end up turning that down all together if that's the case or asking for another company. Unless some of you have anything to say about USA, please feel free to say it here! Any good info on P.A.M.? I heard their trucks were auto? :biggrin_25512:

I'll look into Millis a little more as well. I'll let you guys know what happens! Thanks for being a part of this thread!

Learning on a manual is much better. You can always move to an auto-shifter.
But learning on an auto-shifter and then trying to figure out a manual?
    :biggrin_2552:

    .....

Can't apply with Millis unless you have over 1yr OTR - unless you go through THEIR
class/school. College and even accredited driver courses don't count unless you have the 1yr OTR.

    So, with that in mind:

    Millis (MTI school):

    http://www.mtidriving.com/

-All applicant must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older.
-All applicants must have a current (with-in 60 days) DOT Physical
-All applicants must be able to read, write, and speak the English Language sufficiently to communicate with the public.
-All applicants must not have a major accident or major moving violation on their license with-in the past five (5) years.
-All applicants must have a minimum of a High School education.

..I am not sure about any class openings though until 2010. I think the last class is 11/2 and was booked. Ohio location runs classes more than the WI location.

PS. I value my CDL license almost more than anything else I have. It's my ticket to freedom.. Need to keep it clean.

Thanks for the link and the info!

Yea, I would MUCH rather drive a manual. I can already drive manual, but when it comes to a semi, I'd rather be in one of those. I wasn't sure if PAM drove auto's, but I thought I read somewhere that they were manual. Someone on another thread had said they were auto, which is where my confusion comes from.

Yup... They're automatic. Ugh... I hate that. Can someone tell me why in the world a company decides to have all of their trucks, or most of them, be auto and not manual? Here's what I found on the DS website for PAM:

Here are just some of the features you'll find on P.A.M. Transport trucks:

    • Late model Freightliner, Volvo, and International conventional tractors
    • Auto-shift transmissions
    • 430 to 450 horsepower engines
    • Air ride cabs
    • Fully adjustable seats
    • Air conditioning
    • AM/FM Radio / Cassette players
    • Cruise control
    • Tilt steering
    • Qualcomm satellite equipped
    • On-demand routing and directions
    • Cab-card e-mail communication available
    • Pre-pass scale by-pass installed
If that's who will take me on and only who will take me on, then I guess it's better to get experience driving somewhere than no where at all.

Hanadarko is right about Millis.. they are booked through 2010 sometime.. I'm in the 10/19 (Monday) class and DeAnn told me on the phone they are booked through the end of the year. In regards to the physical, you will need to get a physical within 60 days before you go to the school.. you don't need it before you apply (don't want anyone getting confused and having to get 2 physicals) lol I would really hang in their for Millis if you can get accepted and have that much time to wait for another class. So far they have been an absolutely stand up company to me.
