I think the head gasket problem is more from the liner protrusion not being set properly.

EPA trucks SUCK. Unless you work in parts or service. Those guys love them and will probably all tell you they would never buy one. Those rigs keep them covered up with work. Look at the YouTube video of the guy posted today who dropped his 2015 off at an MHC because they are open 24 hours. He thought they could fix it over night. 20 days and $18,000 later the check engine light is off. But will it return in 50 miles? 500? He paid $18,000 for the crappy daycab to start with.

I have a 6nz and had to have the head gasket replaced last April. I was told by the shop I go to as well as the Cat dealer I had the work done at, that Cat revised the gasket install to include coating both sides of the gasket with sealer to fix the issue. They did check my liner protrusions and all were within specs. The spacer was slightly warped and replaced as well, not sure if that was a contributing factor or not. Full disclosure, I do have a tune on my injectors and am putting 500hp to the ground. From what I understand, the gasket issue was pretty common until the revised gasket install. I am hoping to not have issues going forward, we'll see.

I always cringe when I hear “it’s within spec.” It’s all to possible for a liner to be at the far end of spec and after some miles it no longer be at spec at push the head gasket.

There's a cure for that now. Ring the head along with proper liner specs. Eliminates the headgasket issues.

I'm working on my cat now. Just got done checking liner height. All six are between .005 to .006 except one area on one liner showing .004, with in cat specs. But not my specs. Cutting counter bore Friday.

Can you cut them or do you have someone that comes to your shop?
