To start:::::: I am NOT a gun-grabber:::::. I believe in the 2nd. In fact, as I type this I can see my "piece" in its hoster about 3 feet from where I am sitting. I have spoken to several self-defense experts on this subject. It's a long complicated subject. I also refuse to debate this. It is an established fact that some people will NOT pull that trigger. The reasons are many why. This is why I STRONGLY advocate taking classes and knowing the laws of where you are. One very important aspect of this is there are some limits on the use of deadly force. These laws are not uniform PLUS even in the same state, you might get charged in one place and across the state, they won't charge you. In most jurisdictions, you can't use deadly force to protect property. EVEN if attacked, you shoot that attacker in the back, you might find yourself in deep doo-doo. Don't listen to these people that say shoot first and ask questions later. Don't believe me OK, that's fair, I challenge ANYBODY to go ask a cop or a local DA. The bottom line is simple. If you choose to use a firearm for personal protection make dang sure you KNOW 100% you can pull that trigger. If not do yourself and society a big favor and keep that firearm at home! That claw brought up is far from foolproof. Yes, it may discourage some punk, but a determined attacker it's only going to piss them off. I beg and plea with EVERYBODY! If you choose to carry PLEASE take classes and learn the laws. Make sure you are capable of pulling that trigger. In a lot of cases if you don't you die and then there goes another legal firearm in the hands of a criminal.

I suspect some people fear prosecution more than having to take a life in self defense.

When I was going through The Basic School in Quantico, I got to man an M-249 for a live fire exercise. Remember those big, clunky black gloves the USMC used to issue? Well, the leather on my trigger finger got wedged between the trigger and guard. I emptied an entire drum of ammo before I got my finger free.

It was beautiful, man! Beautiful! Hahahahahahaha! (maniacal laughter).

And I agree. The thing is though the reason is not really relevant. It's that hesitation at crunch time.

M249? I'm surprised you got through a drum before it jammed.

    Wow.
My mention of the Mythbusters brought about all that tirade?

I guess the power of suggestion is highly under-rated and under-appreciated.
    Because I didn't even try.

Not really. What they don't know can't hurt you.

The entire point of a firearm is to protect your life. If you are indeed in that rare situation where you must use it to save your life at least you're not dead. You may face prison or what have you but you're alive. Just use your own best judgement on the matter. I will speak freely about it, but you cannot say what I do or do not have as it is merely a strongly held belief.

Not directed to you. I just started writing from the heart and got long-winded.
