The glory days of bay area radio are long over. In the 70's through the mid 90's, it was great. ALICE, KFOG, the BONE. Frank and Mike in the morning was one of the funniest shows ever on the AM dial.

For a couple years around 1967-68, KMPX was playing mostly local Bay Area bands music.
KSAN had that lady dj with the real sexy voice, Dusty something was her name.

KSJO, originally an AM station, that became KLIV on the AM side, when KSJO moved to FM.

KFJC is FM station from Foothill college.
That may be what you had been thinking about.

KMPX was the original call for what became KSAN.
Trivia note, the show WKRP in Cincinnati, was loosely based on the KMPX to KSAN change.

KMPX was 106.9 and KSAN was 94.9. They both existed at the same time.

This is true, they did. The “underground radio” part of KMPX, was mostly the staff that started playing a lot of the local music, mostly rock, and album cuts and sides.

basically the staff walked out of KMPX because of management, and took over KSAN.

Yeah the staff went of strike and a lot of the local bands supported it. Strike lasted for a few weeks and the whole staff left. The Grateful Dead and the rolling Stones stopped KMPX from playing their music anymore. The station went downhill after that.

    That's it Dusty Street. Thx.
