    You posted you couldn't wait for rates to go back down so everyone would be hungry again.

    That should tell everyone everything about your mind set.

    I agree, however some of the brokers who were really good, no longer are....

    I don't have time to read this entire thread, but that doesn't stop me from voicing an opinion. The last time I was in college as a business/econ major, Jimmy Carter was president. One of the things I remember clearly, and I don't think it's changed, is that the more transparency there is in a market, the more efficiently it operates.

    An efficient, that is transparent, market delivers more overall economic benefit not only to most of those who actually participate directly in that market, but to the entire economy and indeed society itself.

    About the only people on this forum who would NOT benefit from increased broker transparency would be someone who has a direct shipper or two and brokers some of those loads out at a much lower rate than the shipper pays them.

    I know that TTR hosts only individuals of the highest moral and ethical standards and nobody here would ever do such a thing as try to exploit a fellow trucker for their own personal economic benefit.

    I also remember that my term paper for that class was a study contrasting the then regulated general freight market with the exempt one and predicting that the looming deregulation would actually benefit most truckers and shippers as well as the overall economy. I'm sure there are those who would still argue about that, but I did get an A for it.

    There are some great points in here, but the problem is what's being asked for isn't a pure transparent market, but rather one way transparency. If this thing got flipped on its head and it ended up legislating for every carrier being required to report their cost per mile when negotiating a rate with a broker, do you think carriers would be interested in voting yes?

    Nobody is asking a broker how much it costs them per month to maintain a load board subscription and a computer. Nobody cares about their operating costs. What they care about is how much the broker is trying to cut the trucker's throat in the negotiation process. Everyone would like to make the most money possible without listening to the same ole "that's all I got in it" or "that's the market rate for this lane" bullcrap.

    The only downside I've seen so far, is the transparency could cause brokers to cut eachother's throats easier, and that could lead to a gradual decline in rates. I believe that alone is a good argument to keep the rates a secret. But that is the ONLY good argument I've seen so far. And anyone that wants to know my operating cost is more than welcome. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to ballpark the operating cost of running a truck.

    We have fantastic minds solving many many problems at the present time. Sometimes it's be careful what you wish for. Technology has the almost capability to supplant markets, presumably that is the angle Jeff Bezos is working. As for me, I'm not ready for Brawndo.

    A wise fella once told me "Once you drive a stake through that guy's heart, who's next?"

    We tread on thin ice these days with the equality movement, 50 years of creeping marxism, etc.

    Just my personal opinion, once we are all even steven, life will kind of suck. There are many on the left that would just as soon dispense with markets and put big brother in charge of distribution of labor, distribution of prosperity, etc.

    Thought experiment: If these guys are making money hand over fist, as soon as an employee of theirs one learns the game why wouldn't they just start up their own shop and do it for less?

    Be very careful what you wish for.

    I really get a kick out of the guys that say, "as long as I get a good rate, I don't care what the broker makes"

    Well what about the times when you don't get a good rate, and let's be serious your not going to get a good rate ever time.

    And if those guys don't care what the broker's make, then there shouldn't be any problem then if the broker is required to disclose it anyway.

    Two sides to every coin. I see it as the people wanting to know what the broker has in a load as lacking experience or confidence or both.
