Do you have any problems with DPF filter, egr, derate.... ?
I heard the macks have much better technology than other engines.
We always deleted them to solve the problem .

 

I don’t have dpf issues on the anthem (so far), but my previous 2 Mack’s had a ton of issues, those trucks didn’t have apu’s so they ran upwards of 100-120 hours a week. I’m not impressed with the reliability of mack, but that’s what the company runs so unfortunately I have to deal with whatever issues arise.

 

that is what I have been hearing from others. Some told me they had better techno;logy but a few mechanics told me to stay away from Mack these days.

Think I will just buy a used whatever with a apu. Have it deleted. No dpf problems.
Thinking I will go with a spread axle grain hopper to start off. Maybe back to end dump when I pay that off.

 

In case you didn't know, Volvo owns Mack, and from the cab down they are identical. Mack has "MACK" stamped on the valve cover, where Volvo has "VOLVO", but otherwise it's all Volvo. Parts interchange.
Same suspension, transmission, frame, etc. etc.
You may be able to special order a Mack with options not available on Volvo, but generally it's all Mack branded Volvo.

 

I think that the mack engines are different than volvo. Some parts same but where it matters they differ. That is what I read anyway. But any way it goes they are a big expense when you have to fix them. Not every mechanic can deal with one and the shops that do are very pricey. Around here there is only one that I know of and that place is very pricey. Guy I worked for had a mack and it about bankrupted his business. He would take it to Oklahoma to get worked on by a guy there in a small town cuz cheaper.

 

Well a dismal day at best. Went to Sedalia with my turning from Wednesday, along with about 10 other company trucks and everything was frozen. 24 degrees last night and those suckers were bonded tight. There’s a strip of overhang with an overhead crane, separating 2 sides with 4 bins each. Turnings go in Bin 1. We were told to dump what we could in South Bin 1, and then clean out in North Bin 1. After some shoveling and sunlight it was my turn. I was going up up up and heard many a voices yelling “WHOA WHOA WHOA!!” I stopped and looked around, nothing. I got out and looked around and up thinking maybe the crane operator saw something I didn’t. Still nothing. Well whatever I dumped the rest of my turnings. Upon exiting I saw what the hub bub was about. A trailer had laid over from another company. Apparently he had Plate & Structure he too had loaded Wednesday and it all froze to one side causing him to tip. So after messing around trying to get those out, and going back to the yard to wash out which we were told had to be “surgical grade clean” for our Denver airport dry sand, we loaded and parked it. We’ll leave out early tomorrow morning for Denver. Apparently they sprinkle this dry sand on the runway, and this particular sand plant we get it from in Kansas is the only one who can meet their specs. The pebbles have to be round in case they get intaked thru a jet engine (which explains the need for a super clean trailer) Other sand makers can only get it “pine cone” shaped, or oval at best. So it’s off to Denver tomorrow.

Bad day for that guy, some of our running areas are dealing with snow and some frigid temps the next few days. As for me, enough talk of mack and its reliability, I had an oil pressure sensor show its butt this afternoon and here I sit in Tallahassee waiting for the shop to open in the AM.

 

Well back from Denver. Ran out there and dumped sand at the airport. Zipped down to Penrose CO to get rock for Oklahoma City. A gorgeous drive down to Penrose just west of Pueblo. Cutting down to OKC got into quite a bit of snow. It was a slow go for awhile. Then when I finally hooked onto 40, it was raining and my temp gauge kept flirting back between 32-31. And tire spray was non existent in spots, so I hung it up in Clinton. Figured better not risk it, plus I dang sure probably won’t find parking in Oklahoma City at 8:30 at night. The place in OKC was... interesting. Very nice people but man it was a terrible place to dump. Got that off this morning, bounced up to Peoria OK for sandstone and for it being muddy and wet, came out surprisingly good in KC. Local work tomorrow then back to Denver next week. How’s everyone else’s running?
