Should you decide to change transmissions, you are going to need a lot of info first. It is not as simple as take the old one out and put another in.

    Half the rpm.
It means that you don’t have to wind the engine rpm up so high to avoid lugging the engine. And easier to downshift.

Add a stronger engine, 500hp or better, the 13 actually makes driving enjoyable.

    I agree with that 100%.

I would like to change my truck over to a 13 maybe next year.

And I do like the 18 mainly because you have a super low reverse to crawl when you back in and you have a super low low gear for pulling out if you are on a steep hill.

I find with my 10-speed depending on whether the speed limit is 35 45 55 65, I often am doing too many RPMs or not enough RPMS.

I would think you would get better mileage because the 13 keeps the engine right where you want it to be whatever speed you're doing.

Plus if you're loaded you can keep the RPM's higher for jaking, or lower if you're empty or cruising.

I find myself in the Pennsylvania mountains often, and I can see where splitting that gear would be helpful on those big Hills.

I think you would get the most out of your engine and your truck with the 13 or the 18.

Swapping is easy....plumb the extra valve... Run the lines to the shifter...shorten the driveshaft.

The problem is most are taught to drive from the drivers seat. If ya learn in the shop how things work than you know how to drive it. If you understand how the back box works first you'll be fine....if not you'll be rebuilding it cause you ground off the gears.....it's pretty simple how it works but in the wrong hands not so much.

Something I forgot to mention is I use the truck purely for city driving and do jump on the interstate but just to go am hour up the road. I stay local. Also the engine is about 400hp Cat C10. So not 500+ hp if that makes a difference in your opinion.

I like options. You don't need to use every gear all the time. Most cases I drive an 18 like a 9 and just split to high in top gear.

Split the last 2 pending terrain/traffic, I like the 18 because on the low side I like to grab a gear and a half, low, 1 over 3 direct, 4 over, then grab a full one going to 5 and 6, then I’m already in over to grab 7 direct of need, or grab the whole one and go 8 direct and 8 over if I need it

last truck purchased new, Volvo 780 sold it with 1.8 mil miles still original Eaton 13 manual, truck still on the road over 2 mil
now i drive another volvo 780 with original Eaton 13 , 1.5 mil original transmission, oil changes only.
imo, Eaton 13 is the most reliable transmission ever built.
