I've had this happen in every truck in every place where I get enough snow falling. I may have to admit I'm using them wrong. Typically when it happens I am in moderate falling snow, temps in 20-35F. I start out running defrost as hot as I can tolerate and crack a window so I don't turn to a puddle in the driver seat. First I notice ice forming on the wiper arm and the back side of the wiper itself. Second ice starts collecting on the top and bottom if the rubber blade. I'm using top and bottom as if the wiper blade was stopped in the parked position. The top is facing the sky above and the bottom is facing the engine. Then the top portion the the driver-side blade is not sweeping snow/ice/water of the half of the blade closest to the passenger side or the top of the windshield, if it was stopped in the fully parked or stopped next to the A-post. Then it quickly spreads along the blade until the driver-side blade is doing nothing effective on the windshield. In these conditions I eventually have the wiper at max speed and defrost on full blower and max temp but things are only getting worse. Yesterday I had to stop twice on a shoulder of a ramp to break the ice off of the blades by slapping them against the windshield and allowing the defrost to clear the windshield while I was parked.
I'm not allowed to add any expensive washer fluid heaters or electrically heated blades to this truck. I usually leave the sunvisors down, which seems ineffective to me, and this MIGHT only be effective at the top of the windshield if it does anything at all.
How should I be using wiper and defrost more effectively in moderate temps with moderate snow (say 20-35 F and moderate snow)? I tried rainX years ago and it worked well for rain but I noticed no difference in snow and ice.

I remember - I think it was Prestone, had a aerosol spray can of windshield deicer, and it had a scraper formed into the top.
That crap always worked great, but it was for standing still.
Try that, or if it was denatured alcohol in that thing,
get some of that - and try it in your washer bottle?

seems like it would work?
All youse guys give me your feedback, if it will melt his shoes,
or fail a DUI test, or sumptin? Just brainstorming here.
