I have one Broker that I have been doing power only loads that's requiring me to get trailer interchange insurance this is probably coming from the shipper because they are using leased trailers. The insurance agent said I would have to have an interchange agreement before they issue the coverage. I would like to know how to carry this coverage for multiple shippers and would I have to have agreements from each of them with multiple trailers. The non owned trailer coverage did not require a agreement for every trailer. They told me that they would also have to cancel my non owned trailer insurance to add the interchange insurance.

I was doing loads for target over Christmas and they needed the same coverage, insurance agent just added it to my policy.

I don’t have it but my agent doesn’t need anything other than for me to call and add it.
I just can’t get past the whole power only thing since it is their trailer fuel should be free and they pay you tiddlywinks for it.
I know with JB Hunt they will let pull their trailers and charge you $15 a load for trailer interchange without needing it on your policy. Again, hard to swallow those low rates.

I was under the impression they won't add it without the agreement and then they will take off my non owned trailer insurance.

You may have to call and just change the wording of the pol. to interchange and maybe increase your amount of cov. its not much, because shipper may have in wording that you will be paying to replace the damaged trailer with a (new) one not the value of the used one you were pulling?
