and there have been 1 or 2 people that seem peeved because I have been considering trucking.

I just wanted to say that I have explored several possibilities for training. Yesterday I had my last class to fulfill the requirements to receive grants for whatever training I decide to take. During the class I was able to research each possibility. My choices were narrowed down to these:
    Pharmacy Tech
    Forestry Tech
    Graphic Design
    Medical Records
    Truck Driving(CMV)

Out of all those possibilities, trucking has the best chance for me to be hired in this area of Oregon. There is much more opportunity up near Portland(for the other occupations)but I live in Southern Oregon and certainly can't afford to move.

The stats are horrible in this State for the other occupations. For example, they projected 1 job opening per year in Forestry. That was my second choice after Trucking.

I am going to go through with my DOT first and then onto school in January if all else works out. Right now I am working at a restaraunt as a dishwasher and Nov. 16th I start a seasonal(about 2 weeks, maybe more)job for Harry and David(the make gift baskets etc.) I also, still, am caring for property and animals on some land out NE of Medford OR.

Trucking is something I will be good at and I am not doing it because it's my last resort, or because I want adventure. I am doing it because I want something for my old age and up til now, I haven't anything but a little bit of Social Security for working since I was 16. I never had good benefits anywhere I worked and never made a lot of money. I don't expect to make a lot of money trucking, but, at least the potential is there if I do well.

I appreciate the folks who have been supportive of me and I have made some great acquaintances. I hope I will be able to meet some of you when I am out there wherever that may end up being:)

Go for it Denise. You are not going into this without doing research, and you and only you know what's best. Don't even bother listening to the nay-sayers. It is better to have tried and failed...but you won't...then not to have tried at all.

I must say that trucking isn't easy, and can be very demanding. I've been in nearly every aspect of the trucking industry. Including driving for a company and as an owner operator. As well as dispatcher and twice as a dedicated account manager. When I was in management, I found that the women did just as well or better than a lot of the men. Just be sure to take your time in learning and driving as well. I think you'll find most drivers and managers will have more patience for you, since your a woman. I may get blasted for that last sentence. But I feel it's true. Anyways, just my two cents. Good luck on your endeavor!

Denise, there will always be people who attempt to bring you down. There will always be those who feel they must tell you that you're wrong, you'll fail, you shouldn't do what you want.

A year after leaving ministry and moving away I still have people who feel the need to call me and tell me I'm wrong.

If they call you, say "okay thanks for that opinion, bye now" and HANG UP. If they tell you in person say "okay thanks for that opinion, gotta go now" and walk away.
If they email you email back and say "okay thanks for that opinion" and say nothing else. If it's on here you say "thanks for that opinion and bite my butt". well okay not that bite part......don't say that the mods get all huffy. LOL

You get the idea? Do what YOU choose and don't give a tinker's darn about those that try to disuade you. You are the captain of your future. You chose not to follow my suggestion about how to get your training.....guess what...........THAT'S GOOD! You made YOUR choice. I support you 100 and 25 percent because it's YOUR choice to make!

I think you're going to love trucking.......I do.

Time will tell and I for one don't mind be the weaker of the sexes since I believe I am only weaker in some ways. Men are stronger in some areas and women in others. Thats just my opinion. ty much, denise:)

thanks nana, appreciate it much, denise:) Did you suggest a school for me nana?? I couldn't remember. I know I was gonna go the IITR route but found out I could save 1000 bucks by doing RCC. Plus, I can earn 12 college credits there. Anyway, I sure didn't mean to ignore any advice you shot my way. Hope I didn't.
