Mine isn't leaking but I'm about to change the filter. I'm planning on just leaving the valve alone and spinning the filter off and new one on with bucket to catch coolant. This should work, shouldn't it?

My coolant is fairly new but I didn't change filter when it was drained.

The o-ring and new compression fitting on my D13 was only about 8 dollars if I remember correctly. The expensive part was buying the quick-connect hose fitting that drains the radiator at about 75 dollars. Once I figured out how to remove the valve, I made the determination to replace the parts on it each time I do my coolant.

I never did it. Mine is closed and I'm afraid to touch it until I feel like fixing it properly. My mechanic said don't touch it or it will start leaking, just like everybody else has said.

I'll fix it right one day but for now I'm leaving it alone because it isn't leaking.

Wow yes, I’m wondering and almost getting heart attack before I knew the valve can be removed like that easy, I thought I need to remove almost half of engine to replace the coolant filter housing it’s pain in....
but thank you , you are really life saver so I will need to do only drain the coolant remove the filter to get access to the nut under filter loos the nut to remove valve and replace the ring , thank you
