I m surprised kerosene worked at all. When I was at TK we tried it many times because that was corps solution to the problem, not once did I ever see it work.We didnt even bother with it after a while and just went back to removing the chamber and cleaning it.How long did you run it with kerosene to get it cleaned?

It takes quite a few tries to get the fuel up the line from a small plastic container on the ground to prime. Mostly the air would cause an error and you'd restart. After about the 5th attempt it would light and burn really white for a few minutes and then it would clear up. If I remember correctly, I'd run it for 15 minutes to half an hour. Then reconnect the diesel line and it would be good for maybe the rest of the cold season.

I think the subject was running pure kerosene purchased from, say, a camping store in order to burn off deposits in a bunk heater. I can't imagine kerosene is any different pure local. It's long be known that US diesel refining in winter months has a significantly reduced amount of cetane additive than Canadian refined diesel. I suppose the theory there is that we're further north and therefore it would logically (or illogically) be assumed to be colder. Frankly, I subscribe to the idea that US fuel refineries are just greedier. In any event the resolve to that issue is an inline fuel heater as opposed to expensive and potentially damaging additives all winter long.

I took mine out and cleaned everything up. Can't believe how nasty and dirty it got and it's only the 2nd winter I am using it

In any event, I don't advocate it as a good practice as it eventually would weld the burn screen to the chamber.
My friend has a Webasto and he's got a kerosene fuel tank mounted outside the truck. When he's out he just siphon a little diesel from the tanks and continue. -

Posted this on another thread and was told this isn't normal? I just had this bunk heater installed a week or so ago, was purchased brand new... What is the problem?
