the constant change everyday and just wanting to be out of "the same thing every day" jobs?

I think so much about my life and how I have been almost constantly, on the road. I've been here almost 2 years and talk about itchy feet. I understand all the work that goes with trucking but what about the rewards? There has to be some sense of excitement every time you pack your sack, load up and go. I love doing that. It's always been more about the drive than the destination.

I know I am not focusing on the "work" end of the job here but I wanted to talk about it to others who have been driving. I've just never been the "white, picket fence type". Maybe if I "have" to travel I'll find out how much I like "home" LOL! It's true I always liked coming home after a long trip. But it's never long before I am ready to go again:biggrin_2559::biggrin_25517:
So how about it? Anyone willing to talk about the adventure of trucking? I guess I wanna hear from the real gypsies;) Would you feel closed-in if you couldn't head out? Would you trade your profession for another if you could?

Well, I figure you must love it or you'd do something else:biggrin_25525: I mean I'm dishwashing part-time, then I "get" to clean a bar, toilets and all, then I "get" to answer calls in a call-center and listen to people ##### about their order not being right. So sometimes it's just darned if I do and darned if I don't:biggrin_2559::biggrin_25513: Weighing out the good with the bad I guess.

denise, if its anything, ill tell you real quick.
now understand im 23, no kids, not married and still live at home, however, i wouldnt change it for anything, i was actually offered a job, local job, that pays 2x's as most otr companies, and turned it down, love it out here, just this past summer i went on vacation, parked my truck in denver at one of our terminols, rented a 18ft rv, picked my friends up at the denver airport, and took of for.. mount rushmore, the last weekend of sturgis, devils tower, yellowstone national park, jackson hole wy, larime wy, fort collins co, then back to denver, 9 days total vacation, and each day i asked my friends if something was wrong with me cause i couldnt wait to get back into my truck and do some more driving....

LOL! Thank you darlin:) That is great! Well, even though I am now almost 57, I still have the same adventurous spirit I did when I was 23. All of my friends are settled down and I just don't fit into that mold. Doubt I ever will til they lay me to rest;)

I wanted adventure. I wanted to see something besides the small area I've always lived in. I wanted to be challenged.

I was afraid of heights.......I now drive 80,000 lbs of truck down the sides of mountains. (okay maybe not the grades that WCP does but it's pretty wild for me)

I've driven over WY bridges in sudden ice storms, through NYC and across the Washington Bridge into NYC in 8 am traffic.

I've also sat 3 days in rain in NJ. It's not all glamour. LOL

Hey.......it's better than washing bed pans.

OH thanks for this nana! I don't expect any glamour except I do hope I get the chance to go out country, dancing along the way, LOL!! But that's boots and wranglers, lol!!

I love it when you can overcome a fear. Hell, I had the jitters going in to wash dishes for the first time in ages!

I was a Wildland Firefighter for the USFS from 94-2002. The part I loved most about the job was driving our Crew carrier. Don't get me wrong, I liked almost everything about the job, but the best part for me was the travel. I will graduate Wester Pacific on 12/29, I can't wait to get back on the road, where I can see more than the same old building everyday.

Here's something I just love about this dedicated fleet.

We go to Utah a couple of times a week, up 89. I love going through the small towns. People wave to me. I drive through Junction UT and this group of men are sometimes on the porch of the little store......not only do they wave but these two elderly men tip their hats to me.

    so sweet.

Outside Centerville UT is a house and an elderly woman sits on her porch waving to the trucks, she use to drive trucks in the 40s and 50s with her husband. (I met her grandson at the small store there) If you honk she stands up and waves her apron.

    I always honk.

Three little boys in Scipio ride their bikes in the afternoon and they stop and jerk their arms up and down at the trucks. I honk. Saturday they had a sign they held up. It said "thanks for honking lady trucker".

    I love my job.
