    Questions for current KLLM drivers:
How are the miles? What kind of freight are you hauling? Do they have any dedicated accounts if so what? I'm asking because I'm scheduled for orientation Nov 17. Yes I know I should have asked my recruiter I just wanted to get it from a current drivers 1st

My info is current up to late 2008. Kllm primarily hauls produce and other food related items. They run reefers. They also haul temperature controlled commodities for various industrial customers. Some of this business has undoubtedly been affected by the recession. Most of their loads have definite appointments. While driving for them, I was once hooked to the same trailer for two continuous weeks. That translates to a lot of live loads and live unloads.

Like a lot of companies, they usually start a driver off by running them hard to see how much you will put up with. After a while the miles tend to start dropping off, depending on how much freight is available.

Again, as is the case with a lot of companies, there is the conflict between operations and safety. Operations (dispatcher) wants you to run hard, safety is concerned about your logs and running legal. The driver is caught in the middle. Finding a balance is the difficult part of the job.

The company is all about the company. Be careful what you say and what you do around other drivers. There are many in that company that try to improve their own worth by being tattle tales. Like a lot of companies, there is a small core of drivers and trainers that continually get a diet of gravy runs and their checks are quite nice. Those are the ones that will stop at nothing to protect what they have. For the new guys, don't expect to see any gravy. If you are going in as a trainee, expect to spend 6 weeks on the road with out any home time. If your starting in November expect to be in the truck for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years, unless your trainer goes home. Then, I would expect that you will be at home without pay for that time. (This is based on what I observed in the past, but may not be the case at this time). Also as a trainee expect to be running in as a team with your trainer sleeping behind you after the first couple of weeks. Depending of course on how you are progressing.

I wouldn't say that. According to many reports in the trucking industry, KLLM is a very strong company, that has been cutting the fat to keep in tune with this economy. My miles and pay have been good, infact they have a load for me before I arrive at my destination. Yes, I haul alot of food and produce, but also do alot of Haz-Mat and dry loads too. I have had the same trailer for as long as 2 weeks, and I've had 4 different ones in a week. Just the luck of the draw. Some live unloads are slow, some are very quick, so it just depends on the "live" unload and load. I've had beer loaded on my truck within 5 minutes after backing into a dock, and I've had one particular place in Brookhaven, Mississippi take 5 hours to get 2 pallets off of my trailer. It just depends. I get a couple of 1500 mile runs and then a couple of 400-500 miles runs. Depends on where you are and what's going where. Lately, I've made about 5 runs from Upper Pennsylvania to Mississippi or Texas and back. I should be going on the lease program soon. Those guys are doing very well. There are companies that are struggling, and they are easy to spot in the parking lot. The ones that will not do repair work on body damage, the bald tires, the drivers that sit for days at the truck stop. I find just the opposite with KLLM.

i have a question about kllm, i went through school with CRST also in Fontana, CA. Stay with them for 4 months was getting crappy loads for a team. Since I have my Class A CDL would they still hire me, cause the website says from approved schools and well since I broke my contract with CRST i dont quite have a certificate saying i finished school!

Did you go to Advanced School of Driving? If so, give them a call. They'll fax or email you a copy of your cert.
