I've noticed that signals get "cleaner" with the predator than with the whip also. Don't get me wrong, a stainless steel whip antenna is tough to beat and is just about fool proof in any situation, but for those serious into the hobby and want to get strength and distance, they need to look in the direction of a Predator 10K or 55 built antennas.

I have a Stealth Cobra 29 that will prove this to be far from correct, its RFX Modded (which includes a SWING KIT) and it WALKS all over
    radios pushing 200+ watts.(Standard NPC modded 29 w/2 pill box):biggrin_25523:

    Must be the Predator K1 doing all the work . . . . . . . :biggrin_25526:

But are they clean watts? Have you put your radio on a scope lately? Sure you can probably get 50w out of a Cobra 29, but I would rather have 20w on one channel, than 50w on ten channels. Splatter is no good..

I'm not trying to make you mad but.......

Don't ever put the radio on a Bird meter or even a Dosy meter that only reads average power and not peak or you will be in for one helluva HUGE shock! All of that over modulation may impress the truck stop boys or those that worship the all mighty Dosy gods but its does little for your long range capabilities.

There is NO WAY on Gods green earth that you are seeing 200 watts of real power from a 75 watt amplifier> http://www.cbradiosplus.com/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=1616&idcategory=0#details < sorry it just aint going to happen!

You have to understand that any time you cause any radio to over modulate then any peak reading meter ( like a Dosy ) is going to see this as power but it's not real power. This is why 98% of CB shops will not show you before and after power readings on the >AVG< setting of a meter because if you knew the truth about how little power you were getting for that $100.00 in mods you dropped, would be mad as hell!

The reason you see so many shops push the mod/swing kits is to please the customers with over modulated distored radios that show big numbers on the meter but sound like #### up close, is just so the tech can get your hard earned cash! You also see them go inside the radio and spread the little copper coils apart that are located in the back of the radio. #### like this does nothing for power,it only increses the harmnics produced by the radio which the meter sees as power. Over modulation has the same effects.

Find a tech or go to the one who did your radio for you and MAKE them show you how much power your are really doing on the AVG setting and not PEP setting of a Dosy meter. AVG does not see all of the BS and will show you a more realsitic measurement of your power out put. Just make sure you leave your gun at home!

Dont take this the wrong way FriedTater, not trying to make you mad. If it works for you and you like it then more power to you. But i got screwed by so many CB techs for so many years that i started doing a little reserch myself and came to understand that 99% of every mod out there that CB techs charge you and i out the butt to do are nothing but a wast of money!

    One more thing.
I have said it before and proved it many times. You take your 200 watt swinging like a raped ape cobra 25 and i will take my well tuned keying 50 watts swinging to 135 Galaxy 95T and i garantee you that people will hear me a 100 miles ( NO DX ROLLING,JUST OVER FLAT GROUND) away clearly, but you wont even make there meter twitch!

On second thought,i hope this does make you as mad as hell then you will do some checking for your self and see, like i have, that what myself and others have been telling you is the truth and then we can run these rip off CB techs out of town!.......a good place to start would be this site, DXzone.com. It has a search engine so just type in anything you want to know a little more about and read it for yourself.

That's what I"ve been telling 'em! The truck stop "experts" are "expert" in one thing: fooling drivers into thinking they've got dem BIG watts! They set their meters to "Forward Power" and set it to read what they WANT it to read!!!! And the drivers EAT IT UP!!!!!!!! Then the next shop tells 'em "OH, your reddio needs a-tunin'!!!! I'll fix it fer ya!!!!"

"THAT'LL BE $40. PLEASE!!!!!:biggrin_2559: (on top of what he already paid the other shop!!!!!):yes2557:

Aparently you have not heard one of these Stealth cobras with the RFX or used one.

These are great radios and will make most higher powered radios look like toys. That and they are done up by one of the best techs in the field.

This is not your back yard clipped and snipped radio by any means.

I have a non RFX stealth and it will do just about as good as my Connex 4300HP. The RFX version blows my connex out of the water for transmit and receive. I have spent many many hours going over my setup to make sure I have a properly setup coax and antenna system.

I would seriously have to see and hear to believe....I have zero faith in the RFX-75 past 75 watts. Who is this "Stealth" guy anyway....I have Comp tuned radios done by Dustin # R&R Communications, don't get me wrong, they are good radios, but a Comp tuned Cobra 29 is not going to blow a high powered Connex out of the water. Not any day.

The Stealth Cobra was originated by a fellow named Doug when he worked with Sparkys CB shack.

When the RFX75 came out it was added to the stealth radio with some other modifications to bring it to its peak performance. Doug no longer works with Sparky and has his own place now Custom CB radios.

I have one of the original Stealth Cobra 29s and it just flat out works. I am going to get another one done here real soon. It is going to be a harley edition cobra 29 with all the goodies except for eco and talk back.
