J.B Hunt Intermodel

    I know J.B Hunt does not have the best rep in the industry, but most of what I hear is from OTR and Fleece Drivers. I was wondering, (because I was just offered a local Intermodal gig with them, they said .36 cpm, $ $40 for extra stops, most of thier drivers on that account are grossing around $960. per week). does anyone have any expirience working local for them?

    I worked for DCS and Intermodal. You have to deal with all the JBH big brother policies ... but not a bad gig for being home every night.

    One thing to keep in mind, JBH will ruin your career if/when they fire you. If you work with a bunch of stooges (face it, anybody that stays with JB more than a few years, are short more than a few brain cells) and you bump a trailer, somebody notices, rats you out thinking they can benefit from your mistake ... you can/will be terminated for a preventable. Only way to last long is make nice with the supertruckers you work with, follow company policies to the letter, and cya whenever possible. Good Luck

    Oh, and dont quit your current job until after orientation. Recruiters are well known for roping you in on Intermodal or Dedicated, you quit your job, go to orientation and are told the position you were hired for is no longer available ... but you can go otr.

    Im all about that, in fact Im going to tell the recruiter Monday Im not giviving my current Co. notice till after my orientation, (11/23 - 11/25) I want to know theres a job to go to.

    sounds like a good job, but I need to be sure before I jump ship

    I use to work with the Intermodal guys in Va Beach. I will admit that I have not been in that area or region in the past year but they did have a pretty good deal there.

    While you are dispatched and working for the Carlisle Intermodal office you park your truck either at Target in Suffolk or at Charlies Truck Stop in Norfolk. There was only about a dozen or so drivers working the yard there when I was there in 2003 - 2006. It was a good group of drivers, veterans mostly. I guess the good side was that there was no office or manager looking over your shoulder, you got your dispatches, did what you were suppose to do, made your money and went home. You would use the Target dispatch office in Suffolk if you needed anything.

    If I was still driving I would go with the intermodal group, especially as a local gig. They are still the true side of JB Hunt from years ago - and in todays economy its definately were the money is at. I've been with them for almost seven years now, 2.5 as a driver and 4 as a manager. I wish you the best of luck. As companies go, I believe they are one of the best out there and while you will always have a few bad apples in every company, we really do try to do our best and treat everyone as a person!

    As for the other comment about watching out for other drivers, I'm sure he/she may of had a bad experience of that nature but for the most part the drivers in that area/region are all looking out for one another. I managed 14 accounts in Virginia and Maryland before moving out to the Midwest. I had great managers and drivers alike, granted we didn't always make everyone happy - thats impossible - but we had a great team. My Family Dollar drivers were the best when it came to looking out for each other. They shared information about stores, directions, and we had cookouts, parties, etc, for them. We had alot of senior drivers at that account also. My Target team in Suffolk was the same way - senior drivers but they all got along and helped each other out.

    Maybe I'm impartial because I've been there so long but I can't think of working for anyone else.

    I see a lot of good in this . It will ease congestion on the highways . (Less J.B. drivers out there . :biggrin_2559:). Drivers will be home more but when freight picks up there will be long waits in lines at the railyards . Container chassis have long been known for being poorly maintained . J.B. will most likely have shops at the rail hubs and the condition of chassis will be much better than it had been .

    JB Hunt uses their own chassis that are usually in very good shape.

    They're just`ahead of the game a bit - but it won't be long B4 pumpkin, swift, and others start boosting their container fleet in the name of profits.

    Then the rail lines will reach capacity
    (sooner rather than later).

    Then the`scourge of jbhunt recruiter telemarketing will begin again ...

    can anybody tell me is jb a good company to work for in the intermodal division? i am very interested in it, but on the same note scared of walking into a nightmare. there are so many conflicting stories on here. i dont know wut to believe. im 28 and i dont want to mess up because my family depends on me. i dont have any issues with my current company other than i am over the road and trying to be home allitle more often. if anybody can fill me in on wut they know it would be very helpful to my decision. ok thanks for everything.
