    Yes. Unfortunately natural gas wasn't an option. Having heating & hot water on electric keeps it high in the winter.

    Thats probably true... My mortgage payment is MUCH lower than those higher prices you mentioned.

    my bill in the NE is $300 a month in the winter and summer and about $200 in spring and fall......

    Not sure of your living situation, but you could do propane as a secondary option. Plumb the lines like you would for natural gas and have a propane tank that a local gas company can fill. That's the way my BIL has their home, and I've seen it in a few other places where natural gas lines to the home aren't an option.
