Cool thing about cyberspace is you can be anyone you want, Right, Aftershock???? Haven't seen any posts yet that have enlightened the forum or have brought any trucker to a "higher society". Pathetic!, If you we're in another forum besides a "Trucker" forum they would have you for lunch. Shame, most truckers agree with you just out of fear! Doubt everything...Socrates

    You're correct, ..... to a point.
I think y'all can be "anyone" you want --- as long as who you want to be doesn't really exist outside your head in the realm called reality. We couldn't, for instance, be Barack Obama because he really exists. Nor could we be Kyle Bush, for the same reason. However, we could elect to be ol' Doc Hudson, because that name belongs to an animated character who doesn't actually exist, --- just the name. Same with Tweety, Snoopy, and Felix the Cat.

Why?, I hear someone ask, did I choose to be Shakey AfterShock.
    Hmmmmmmmmm
As I recall, ........ it was more like AfterShock chose me.
What was amazing is, we're both exactly the same, ......
    only different.
    How cool is that?

    ANYway, ...... lemmie 'splain, ...................... I'm
Shakey --- because I'm domiciled near Los Angeles, and LA is referred to as "Shakey" or "Shakey Town".
AfterShock because EarthQuake sounds too corny, and both do basically the same thing --- shake the ground, as they (too) often do almost anywhere in California.
Fer shure they make an impression that can last a lifetime.
I've seen big burly Big truck truck drivers scream and cry, swearin' they'd NEVER come back to the Golden State.

I read a report on quake activity a few years ago that claimed aftershocks can cause more damage than the one, original quake --- because there can be hundreds of aftershocks over a period of months and even longer shakin' down what ain't been shook enough, .....yet.
    LOOK OUT !!!
    Jest Keeding
    :biggrin_25523:

When I decided Shakey AfterShock was a good fit, it was for my CB handle. Just a name to use over the airwaves that wasn't a handle heard often, if at all. Then when I acquired my first computer, I noticed the websites were requiring a name to sign up. I was already familiar answering to AfterShock, so it seemed natural to continue with that handle, which has now become a screen name too --- but I decided to call it a "stage name" instead of screen name because here on the internet, AfterShock had become a character. That's when it dawned on me that we CAN be just about anything we want to be in cyberville, and I couldn't resist the urge to re-invent myself.

Shakey AfterShock took on a persona all his own and grew into a dauntless defender, wearing a (slightly) faded purple cape and bright, (but not hot) pink speedos. No mask though.
And the rumors that AfterShock can fly aren't true.

Everyone needs a family and AfterShock is no different in that respect. So, I invented the "After Clan", consisting of cousins and uncles with names like, AfterBurner, a cousin and sometimes team co-driver, AfterProfit, an uncle who owns a Big truck truckin' outfit called "Back-'N-Forth Truckin'. Then there's my vivacious cousin AfterDinner-Mint, and she's a wild child.
AfterTaste is another uncle who is a short order cook, usually at some truck stop, and AfterThought --- cub reporter for a newspaper.
There are more "Afters", but I think you get the gist of it all.
    You haven't?
    Hmmmmmmmmm
    What does that make you?
YeaH, but fret not, that can be over come with time and maybe a little effort along with a desire to improve. You can do it.
    You don't say!
That would be mighty neighborly of folks in another forum besides a "Trucker" forum. Some place other than a truck stop, I hope. Lunches at truck stops are expensive and predictable. I prefer a Mom & Pops place. Better food and prettier waitresses than T/A or Flyin' J, IMO.
    Where's the "shame"?
    Where's the "fear"?
And who are the truckers that agree with me "out of fear"?
    "Fear" of WHAT?

    You're killin' me here. :laughing-guffaw:
    And I'm a baaadd man.
    :naka:
    ShuX,
All we, myself included, are is hieroglyphics on a contrasting background --- words, mere words. Who fears words? Must be a phobia.
    Socrates was and is over-rated.
That was a long time ago when he was makin' all those observations.
I heard Socrates knew everything there was to know.
    I don't doubt he didn't
But I'm willin' to entertain , even consider, that he did (know every thing there was to know) --- that I doubt.

If so, and Socrates was, in fact, the first know-it-all to-be-known, but I doubt by all, ......................... so what?
    Big deal.

Have any of y'all ever teamed with a know-it-all co-driver who never missed an opportunity to let-everyone-know he knew what he knows, ........ for weeks at a time over thousands of miles.
During that time, ..... well, from around the second day, ...... the moment I climbed back in the truck, I couldn't wait to get out.
I just cowboy'd up and dealt with the situation as best I could.

    OH!
Did I mention he was lazy to boot?
    Really lazy?
But he sure could drive for miles for days on end.
I liked that about him, ....... he was in it for the money too.

    But, I digress..................................................... my bad.

Teamin' with a known know-it-all who lets-you-know and even issues updates, .......... is no picnic.
Considerin' the number of other co-drivers he'd pushed to their limits and wanted him outta their truck, I doubted I'd be his last (co-driver).

    Funny thing, ...............
Thinkin' back to those daze causes me to wonder, ........
Do y'all 'spose ol' Socrates was like that?
Big ego, one-sided, obnoxious, boring, maybe a bit of bragging showoff?

    Couldn't agree more!

In my less than one year I helped 2 or 3 people back into tight spots by spotting them.
I constantly flash people in and am diligent about using my four ways to acknowledge the same courtesy.
I stopped for a broke down trucker on the I-70 a few weeks ago and let him use my phone to get help.
CB'ed a skateboarder to let him know his load was loose.

In return I have been spotted a few times and let in on the highway and received instructions from other drivers about shippers.

There are also a lot of drivers that won't extend or acknowledge a flash, many don't even use a signal in the large cars and spew out all sorts of garbage on the CB.

It's a dog eat dog world in trucking, the newbies have to huddle together while a lot of supertruckers deride them.
The old timers are a different story, they came up in a different era and most of them have a helpful, humble nature in contrast to this world of steering wheel holders..

Wow, I knew there were some England haters out there but I didnt think there were that many, geez!!

Not trying to totally defend them nor, act like they are perfect, but I would say they arent that bad especially since they gave me and my wife a pretty fair chance to get into the industry with no experience whatsoever. Well, Ive had some experience to the extent of driving fire engines, nothing like this and my wife didnt have any experience at all. We made it through the school, the Phase 1 and 2 OTR training and we are now on our own. Not bad considering alot of companies wont even give you the time of day unless you have at least 2 yrs experience. It would be nice if the pay was better since 17cents per mile to the both of us isnt much, plus the amount of money they are deducting from our checks for the school but if we keep our miles up, we do ok. Sure theres probly better companies out there that pay more but Ive talked to several drivers who get paid more per mile that have had more 34-hr restarts than they can shake a stick at. We barely ever have them aside from hometime that we take every 4-6 weeks.

Like I said, England may not be the best company out there, but I dont think they are certainly the worst. Yeah, their lease program might be one of the biggest scams out there, but as far as company drivers go, its not as bad as you think. Just as long as you grit your teeth and try to ignore their BS about their idea of fuel saving.

    Amazing, isn't it?
Especially considering that the vast majority of those dis-satisfied with C.R. England haven't chimed in here at TTR.
What you're readin' is only the tip of the ice cube.

If y'all are thinkin' that CRE hired y'all out of the goodness of their heart, think again. The only reason CRE hires anyone is for the money they make from training and relocating freight for low driver wages. Above and beyond that, y'all are just a number.

When you say CRE isn't "that bad" I guess that depends on how y'all define "bad".
With all due respect, with y'all having practically no Big truck truckin' experience, how qualified do y'all think you are to be making judgement calls about what's good and/or "bad" in this industry?
    ConGRADulations!
That's a start, and farther than some have made it there.
That's true, Corneileous. Especially with what's considered the better truckin' companies.
No, it certainly isn't. It seems that besides the tuition for training, y'all continue to pay with lower wages. Which, I'm sure pleases CRE as they move freight for a higher profit --- for them.
No pressure there, ....... right? Hopefully y'all won't experience one of those famous CRE negative paychecks. Or worse yet, end up owing CRE for whatever reason. One breakdown and a few days waiting for repairs could cause that. As I understand it, CRE makes no exceptions for their Big truck breaking down leaving y'all sittin' somewhere, --- not to mention the motel which I doubt CRE will reimburse y'all for.
    "Probly"?!
    More like absolutely.
Wouldn't that indicate that they're running a lot of miles? Miles = $$. SOMEtimes, that 34 hour re-start is a welcome relief from runnin' hard. And a chance to do laundry, clean the Big truck, and just relax for awhile.
Y'all are runnin' team, ..... right? How do y'all run out of hours runnin' as a team?

Like I said, with all due respect, you aren't experienced enough to know whether or not they're the worst, ..... yet. Those with years of experience in the truckin' industry usually have a different opinion about how CRE stacks up in comparision to other truckin' companies, and many of them realize what CRE is.
    "Might be"?
    Really?
How bad do I think CRE is?
I hope CRE provides y'all with good dental coverage. Too much teeth griting could pose a problem down the road. Visiting a qualified dentist on your days off sounds inviting.

Tell y'all what ----- I've been hoping to read a success story from a CRE driver who can and will explain how others can be successful there as well. Personally, it bothers me when folks are kicked to the curb by the likes of CRE, or any other truckin' company for that matter. I relish readin' about successes though. That being said, I'd sure appreciate it if y'all would be willing to continue reporting y'all's experience at CRE over the next year or so. You'd be helping others who are trying to decide what company they should apply with after graduating an independant drivin' school, or to attend the CRE training.

By the way, at this time, do y'all plan to move on to another truckin' company once y'all get one or two years experience with CRE, or remain there?

Whatever y'all decide, I wish y'all good luck and the best of success. :yes2557:

Doesnt hate them. Just feels they need to go further with showing "true" respect for their drivers, and ACTUALLY pay them (not running them on a negative).

    "Doesn't hate them."
    Good catch, LTD. :yes2557:
    ThanX!:salute::salute:
I meant to mention that and left it out.
    My bad.:biggrin_25525:

    You're absolutely correct.:notworthy:

    I subscribe to:
    Love the sinner
    Hate the sin.

Ergo, it's what CRE does that I, .......... I, uhhhhhh
    Hmmmmmmmmmmmm :scratch::dontknow:
I'm not real sure the emotion generated is actually hate though, .................. so let me say,
    Despise the sin.

Thanx again for the reminder, LTD.
    I appreciate that.

Wow, I guess. Seems to me that the vast majority of the haters are the ones who got bit in the #$$ by the leasing program.
When did I say they hired us out of the goodness of their heart?? I said they gave us a chance since some companies wont even give you the time of day unless you have at least 2 years of consecutive experience. Maybe we sre just a number but I would say is pretty good to atleast get us in to the industry.
So, we have to be part of the 20year+ drivers to make a decision like that? Im sorry, but it doesnt have to take that long.
Why, thank you! Theres been plenty that have made it as far as we have, maybe even a lot further....

Well, maybe this is just me, but we're still considered trainees. I kinda figured that new drivers have to start somewhere, dont they? Besides, when we get done payin off the loan, which should be somewhere around April, we'll have almost an extra 1200 bucks each a month in our pockets since the loan will be paid off. Plus, we're supposedly gettin a grand back if we stay with the company for I think, a year.
Well for one, we went company, not lease so I dont see how we could have a negative check.

Two, we've had plenty of breadowns and have never had to sit anywhere.
LOL, how does alot of restarts equal lots of miles??? To me, that means you spend more time sitting than you do driving.
Do I really have to answer this?? Yes, we are running team and with the amount of miles we run, sometimes we get close to runnin out of hours so we just back off a little. We just tell the DM to give that tight-#$$ed Conway load to someone else so we can get some time back....
Once again, a butt-load of experience doesnt have anything to do with it. Sometimes, you can tell right away if you made a good or bad decision about the company you just chose to work with.
That was just a metaphor, man....
    Will do, man.....
Dont know at this point. It all depends on what things are like in another year and a half and what this lovely economy is like when that time comes around.
