If I’m going to spend someone else’s money, I wouldn’t want a 12” deep rack. Mine is 18” deep and I would prefer a 24” deep one with side access. Why carry all your chains up onto the catwalk to hang them up when you can open the side door and do it from the ground?
1500$ from 4 state 375$ for 12" up to 725 for the 48" in picture 24x24x60" between the axle box for 850 each Then assume about 150$/ box/rack for mounting. Could fully kit out a truck and trailer for 1 rack 2 step boxes (depends on truck but ive got one 18 and one 36) 2 trailer boxes Comes to 5100$ If im spending 5k. Im not buying ONE box, if i had money to burn, sure but the point of the game is to make, not spend money. And replacing any individual component is cheaper than trying to get a one size fits all huge box. Just my 2 cents
Adds up quick when you have to put those boxes on multiple trailers. My company has 5 trucks and 15 trailers. It's easier and cheaper to have each truck carry their own equipment and tarps than to kit out all the trailers individually. If you're a one man show with 1 trailer and 1 truck then it makes more sense to use the space under the trailer for storage.
My hatred of trailer swapping works since i do nothing but live load. Tangentially, the wasted expense of those extra trailers ( a spare or 2 sure, but 3:1?) Outside of drop and hook, why so many? And assuming you guys do drop and hook, the shipper/receiver doesnt beat up those trailers?
5 Step decks, 4 flatbeds, 2 RGNs, 3 Dry vans, 1 multiaxle trailer. 100% live load. Different trailers for different types of freight.
I've got 3 roll up doors on my trailer. With washing and lubrication they work great in warm weather. Winter time not so much, do not recommend
I figured that was one of those things that worked better on paper kinda thing. I really like the idea though.
I park in a heated shed everyday so that probably helps me I guess and 90% of the winter they will work fine. If its just cold snow not a problem usually but that 10% of the time when they get wet and stupid cold you really gotta get rough with them to get em open. I've tried completely dousing them with silicone spray or wd-40 and it might help some. But I'd be concerned for a guy that can't defrost them regularly. I'm sure they would be really nice in a flat bed application not having a door in your way.
