The bulkhead is just a ramp to the cab! Personally I hate suicide coils ( I have to dig out my coil racks).

It's 2 chains per coil min. on shotgun coils. Unless they changed the law and I wasn't informed.

Watched a guy put 10 chains (3/8) and 2 straps on a 52k loaded suicide. It was a work of art, about 4 of us watched him do it and he was still faster than most other guys. I always use at least 4 just for redundancy all 3/8", I've seen chain ties ripped out of the floor or J-Hooks pop out (thanks Mac) and if you only use 2 your in trouble.

Them coils at the most are only 23k, thats why I said atleast 3 chains.

You've had problems with your J-hooks popping out? I haven't ran into that yet.

I haven't had one pop clear out but after you tighten your chains look at them sometimes you can see where their not fully locked. Most of the time you can hit them with a strap bar and they'll pop. I only know that they will pop out because a guy that lost a coil said that's how it happened. Only had 2 chains which was his first mistake but the chains didn't break they were still wrapped around the J-hook but the coil was in the ditch. He said his Reitnouer didn't have this problem but it was the only downfall of the Mac.

I agree I hate suicide coils, the coil well will spoil you. I'd rather have the big alum racks that lock in the floor but the well is a close 2nd.

I've heard that it can happen just never had it happen to me yet! But I'd still rather have my J-hooks instead of them phlimsy reitnour ones. They are just to thin and they bend to easy.

I have no complaints with the Mac, 88k net...still has the arch. (had 92k on last week and it still looked empty, not bad for a 50') oh and no the training wheels are not touching the ground.:biggrin_25522:

I've had 91k on 2 coils 45,500lbs each, one over the dolleys and one on the spread, it looked empty also. I figured it would drop alittle over the dolleys but it didn't.

Whats the biggest single you've had on? I've had a 54k on once, it was 3 coils and they was skinny so I just had them butt them up together. Believe it or not, that #### thing road better that way.

50500 pound coil, loaded the center of the coil about 6 inch behind center of the trailer and it rode to Laredo like a dream.

A old timer told me once with a coil that big your not chaining it to the wagon but chaining the wagon to the coil. If the coil wants to leave it gonna take the wagon with it.

Just took a 68990# single to a place with a 62k max coil tractor and a crane with 60k limit and a tiny little "C" hook. Great planning on their part.:smt075
