Speed limiter bypass?

I've had that happen. I called them and told them to figure my logs out, I've been gone a month I'm going home tonight.

 

In my 19 years if trucking I've never been more then two weeks on the road. Usually im 4-6 days out. Still missing alot from my family activities

 

According to Bullydog , the $499.99 device item # 46501 doesn't work on trucks with password protected ECM's . I can't imagine a modern day big company without the password protection being set . Just an fyi before you waste $499.99 .

Now another way around this if you have a Detroit Diesel, would be to download detroit diesel diagnostic link (DDDL) online and also a backdoor password generator to bypass the company password ... There are free copies of both online but you will have to spend about $700 for a Nexiq USB link (or similar) to actually use the software .. Every now and then you can find a laptop on eBay with everything imaginable loaded including backdoor password generators . You would buy this plus the Nexiq USB link . Or search the web for free copies (Not posting those websites on here)

Also if you're using modern AOBRD/Elog you will get caught eventually . Even if you turn back the speed governor before they call you in , there will be a log stored in the ECM that anyone with dealership level software will be able to see .

 

For me, it adds up to a lot. I can earn on average $500 extra per week with a higher speed limit (75 vs 66). And while it does slightly lower fuel efficiency, it is a minuscule amount. It adds about $50 per week to my fuel bill. I believe that a driver is a professional and should be treated as such. It is the professionals responsibility to maintain appropriate speeds and failure to do so should be strictly on the driver. Companies that limit their drivers, especially 15 mph below the speed limits, are just causing drivers to earn less money and impacting OTD’s. JMO

 

A friend of mine got hit truck speed limited to 105kmh by Volvo shop, but they limited pedal only and left it open on cruise, he didn't have any idea because rarely drives on cruise. After awhile was pulled for inspection in Windsor, and they checked the speed on both pedal/ cruise got a fat fine ,demerit points and spent time and money on lawyers.

 

They did it wrong then. My 2013 780 was limited on the pedal and cruise to 105, but there is a separate section in the ECM called driver rewards I think, there you can set parameters that give you an extra 10 or 15 mph on the pedal or cruise IF you meet the set mpg. So if I remember right, as long as I was doing 5.5 mpg I got an extra 10 mph.
Dealer set it up for me when I bought the truck. I was plugged into several times in ontario and all they can see is the regular limiter, not the driver rewards.

Yes we have the same issues in Australia where it is federal law for all heavy vehicles to be limited to a max of 100 km per hour however some companies do have trucks "opened' up to speeds of well in excess of 100 km per hour not sure how they get away with it as some states like New South Wales have cameras that take a photo of the truck and record the time and watch to see what time it is at the next camera, if the times don't match up with the distance driven, the company then gets a please explain letter in the mail and can face the real possibly of having that truck taken off the road. However if would be handy to have something to use when you happen to be following someone doing under 100 and just don't seem to have those extra few km per hour to get past them very frustrating for the driver if your not on a freeway.

 

How do you get paid?

If I get paid by the hr I will drive whatever legal speed you want.
However if you pay piece work then don't dictate how many pieces I can make legally. Eg if I am in Texas and the speed limit is 85 ,well then.
If there is some sort of contract and the difference in actual speed and posted speed is addressed ,that's a different thing,
The problem is every body plays by different rules.
