This poll is not solely for the benefit of wannabes and newbies. Some experienced drivers might benefit from it too. If you've never worked for any of these companies, please vote anyway. Certainly you've heard enough in this forum or out there on the road to be able to cast a vote.

This poll supercedes the one I put out there 3 days ago. I got a lot of feedback saying there were not enough companies in the poll.

If you have questions or suggestions, I'm all ears!

BTW, you CAN vote for more than one carrier in this new poll!

If those are the choices I'd rather play a piano in a bordello . I believe the benefits and downtime ( hmm need to rephrase that ) would be better .

    I dunno...W&S is a decent company.

But playing that piano. Man what a dream job that would be, if they included steep employee discounts in the beanie package :yes2557:

One that doesn't start trainees off at .35 a mile. They make them earn it, through length of service. W&S won't even pay a 3 year experienced driver .35 a mile.

Most trainees, are replacing other trainees that have moved to a lesser company, paying a higher rate per mile.

And that's how they and Schneider get private carriers to eliminate the jobs of good professional drivers . http://www.hfbusiness.com/article/f...ations-watkins-shepard-trucking-411886_1.html . Just wait 'til these newbies start unloading furniture off the back of the truck with no dock after backing into an alley off a narrow city street .

That's where you're wrong. The vast majority of these "stick" haulers will be hired by W&S, as long as they meet the hiring requirements. Which aren't that difficult to meet. It's win-win for everybody involved. Even if they cut their pay a few cents.

What private carrier can compete with the logistics offered by a broad based trucking company?

    Answer....none.

Consider a LTL going 150 miles, and you having to foot the bill for the entire load. Even though you have only 5 pieces in the trailer.

Now consider this same truck, pulling the same load, with multiple stops along this same 150 mile route. However, there is additional freight in the box, from 4 other companies.

W&S will make about $7 a mile for that trip. While the "private" carrier would lose money.

As an LTL driver with W&S... I made excellent money, with excellent hometime.

I don't mean to insinuate that things are the same now, they're not. Pay has been trimmed quiet a bit. The economy is driving this industry, as it is others.
