"If you've never worked for any of these companies, please vote anyway. Certainly you've heard enough in this forum or out there on the road to be able to cast a vote."
What I'm asking is for experienced drivers to vote based on either their personal experience with a company OR based on what they've heard from whatever source (this forum, ts lounges, rest stops, etc).
I think the 15 companies in the poll are 15 of the "big hirers" in the industry. Maybe not the top 15 "big hirers", but a good representative sample.
Thanks for your interest and for your 27 years of experience. I'm sure I'll be talking to you in the future.
15 companies, which one is the overall best in your opinion!

I've always found that a company that's hauling it's own product is the best. They do not need to satisfy any other company out there and all the drivers are unloaded and loaded as first come first out basis. So that's what I'd look for. Besides that, they tend to have alot better benefits from what I've seen.

What you say rings true. One of the best recommendations I've gotten is for a small company in north Mississippi. They haul only their own product. Thanks!

While tooling around this forum I discovered a thread/poll that was started in Jan 2006. Its' title was (I'm paraphrasing) "Who's the worst of them all?". I don't know if this poll is still active but I do know it has had 4685 participants. Now, if anyone would care to look at that poll (especially wannabes and newbies) you can bet your ##### those are some valid outcomes. Hell, I'm only hoping for at least 200 in my little poll! I'm gonna look at that old poll again to see if any of the "worst" companies have come full circle and mended their ways.
I just bet I won't get any surprises!Last edited: Nov 27, 2009

Ooooh! Don't tell Nana but.........

This just in! Watkins Shepard has just crept into the lead!!

But look at Emerson Electric shutting down its fleet and contracting to Schneider and Broyhill Furniture shutting down its fleet and contracting to Watkins Shepard . More and more Schneider trucks are pulling WalMart trailers . U.S. Xpress is pulling Meijer . You no longer see big teamster logos on tractors pulling Kroger trailers . You can see more private fleet elimination coming . These companies are going to see cutting transportation costs as one way of cutting expenses . A FSC doesn't help a private carrier . EPA requirements cause truck prices and upkeep costs to rise considerably .
This is good for inexperienced drivers willing to work for substandard wages . It is not good for drivers with 10 -15 years experience with those companies .
