and I'll bet all of us have experienced that too! They dont have to outright threaten or overtly punish drivers. There are more effective, easier to hide ways to make a drivers' life a living hell! Dispatchers must go to a class to learn how to do it too, cuz every dicpatcher that I've ever worked for knows the best way to "punish" a driver who gets out of line!

And back on the subject, I have never heard of a large carriers dispatch office getting in trouble for pushing driver to hard past the book. We both (DOT and drivers) know all the code words used in the QC to push the drivers, but DOT will not do anything about it, until it's in plain english. Plain english will almost never happen.
You DOT guys are all talk about wanting to stop the big carriers. We, drivers have all experienced being all out of freight and sitting for a few days because we complained. I see trucks with bad tires every day, and I mean just about slicks. I have measured a few while waiting at the docks, and all were way under what is legal. I saw a truck last year that had slick spots on every tire, call the PA state police, gave truck info and problem to the dispatcher, but was told they are to busy to check him out.
90% of the rules made for trucking are either fell laws or money making laws.

It appears that this thread has turned into a finger pointing crybaby thread! You can whine all you want about the "Big Bad DOT" not doing their jobs or just applying fines when and where they want but you have all gotten away from the point! The discussion of the forms and manners that WE THE DRIVER need to be aware of! There is a political thread somewhere in here and that's where this crybaby BS needs to head to!
I for one have seen everything the DOT can do with an ink pen and now I'm about to learn some more! BUT, I can honestly say that every time a DOT took his pen out to write me up I DESERVED what I got! I did not cry as I've seen so many others do when they got exactly the same thing! I'm from the OLD SCHOOL! I can color a book better that ANY of you out there and can run around every scale in America but I learned after my first 10 years I would rather keep my money in my pocket and not in some county other than my own!
The playing field is going to change. Not to our benefit unless you look at how it's going to affect your safety and others. No longer is the company going to pay fines for the things you didn't do correctly. WE are now going to get to help your company pay the fines! Logbook? If you draw the line it better be right and match to what ever the DOT says it needs to match up to. Mechanical problem? if you follow 396.13 and do your daily inspection and REPORT it to the company and you get pulled in and well the company told you to "forget it" but you signed the report BEFORE you drove you'll be saved but the company has a problem.
It has ALWAYS been on OUR, the drivers shoulders how the companies safe stat scores came out and a lot of the problems were the DRIVERS fault! Incomplete reports, logbooks DAYS out of service, trucks that couldn't pass an inspection if God himself was standing next to it and the list goes on! But we keep driving these POS but it's "not our/your fault?" my arse!
You know it and I know it, but now we ALL know that it's OUR hides on the wall now and we NOW get to make sure that the bottom feeders we work for that want to pinch a penny, get nailed to it before we do! These companies aren't that stupid! They will HAVE to knuckle down and get with this program or THEY will be out of business! Look at CSA2010 as at least getting some of the crapola trucks off the road along with the drivers who just skate along and hold the wheel making those of us who try to do our jobs correctly look just as bad! And to tell the truth it's about time some teeth were put where they were needed!
If you can't abide by these new rules and can only cry about them then it's time for a career change! If THIS old dog can live with them anyone can! I'll say it again, no logbook fines in over 20 years and since I started working for a company that kept the truck in repair no DOT failures since 2003! That was money in MY pocket every time I passed!
It's always been about the driver, now they are making us responsible for our actions! BUT, you keep the points off of your record you'll look better to the next reputable company you go to hire on with! And that's a GOOD thing!Yatista Thanks this. -

Then WHY are you still whining about it?
It isn't just on YOU but both you AND the COMPANY! Read it again! YOU are the one doing the inspection correct?
You are responsible for the condition of the truck and are the companies agent in such matters.
You follow 396.13 SIGN the report then notify the company about what repairs are needed that DOT will have a fit over. And WAIT for the authorization to get the truck repaired.
If this company can't afford to have the truck fixed that should tell you then and there that your pay check might not make it to the bank!
Or they are to cheap to repair it on the road, thusly ENDANGERING you life and maybe MINE or MY FAMILIES? I KNOW where I'd want THAT POS you're driving and that's sitting on the scale house yard waiting for the service truck!
You STILL don't get the implications here! We The DRIVERS are NOW being required to do our jobs the way it's BEEN stated in that funny little green or orange or blue or whatever color it is book!
You do your part, then the company will HAVE to do their part! They will get the points the same as you! If you didn't learn how to say NO when you were 2 years old then it's way too late for you now as apparently that bottom feeder has you bent just right and won't let you up!
The ball is in our court! If losing your job because you said no and you just like to drive a POS and dangerous piece of equipment down the road then I have no respect for you as a driver or as someone who should be standing on his own 2 feet! Thats for any of you! You've all been crying about these companies and how they treat you SO badly and now you have the TOOLS YOU NEED to fight back but what do you do? Just like MOST truckers you'll sit there and cry on this thread and the CB or around the counter at the truck stop AS USUAL waiting for someone else to come along to take up the slack! GEEZE LOUISE! STAND UP AND FINALLY FIGHT THE COMPANIES! DOT finally gave you a way to get your equipment fixed but all I see are the whiny arsed wannabes' doing the same ol same ol!
You'll just have to be hit in the head a few times to figure out this isn't going to be as bad as the naysayers think it is! I look forwrd to having some ammunition against these bottom feeder companies and can't wait to use it in MY gun! -
Uh, no. You can't keep track of what you're saying, apparently.
They have narrowed the options down to: 1) Refuse to drive the truck with a defect and get fired or 2) drive the truck and get fired by DOT.
Wow.
That is what we are talking about. We don't care how great you think you are.
