Honestly, in all my 40 years in radio, I NEVER heard echo or "reverb" in amateur radio! Try it on ham radio and you will either be ridiculed, scolded, or called a "chicken bander"! Nobody ELSE in professional,or SEMI-professional, radio uses such (some broadcast stations may at times for "trick" advertising, etc)! It is unnecessary and thought of in ham radio as childish and immature! CB is its home!

HAM and CB are two different things I wish folks would quit trying to compare the two. Try comparing a new sports car (Corvette) and a new 4x4 pickup (Ford F350). For those brand sensitive, change out the respective examples for your own favorite, whatever.
Anyway, both are methods of transportation, and good ones at that. One will get you there fast, one will get you there no matter whats in the way. A 6" lift and 35" tires wont look too bad on that pickup, but no one would think of it on the Vette! Same with lo pro tires and a soft top for the new sports car, wont work for the truck, will it!!

Echo is fine on CB, not so fine for Ham radio, we understand that. This is, however, labelled a CB forum, therefore opinions within CB are respected.

No it is not, any amount of Eco or reverb makes people sound like they are talking in a poor accustically designed hall or worse. Simply, there is no amount of eco or reverb that does not sound like garbage. It just makes it harder for people to distinguish what you are trying to say.

In other words, if "echo" or "reverb" is so "great", then why don't OTHER radio services USE it? :biggrin_2552: Because: It would sound just as crappy, just as unprofessional as CB does!:biggrin_2559: Good, professional-sounding audio, correctly set up, does NOT NEED enhancements.

    That's the REAL, honest answer!

The real point is...It's a stinkin' CB radio! It's a combination toy/tool and is in the truck primarily to pass the time and give you some contact with the drivers around you.

It's not a "professional" piece of equipment! It is not meant to be anything else.
Some ham operators tend to have some sort of view of themselves like they matter to anyone but the other "pocket protector wearin' " ham operators and have a misguided idea that ANYONE outside of their little circle of nerds cares what they think.

If you don't like the way my radio sounds...Don't talk to me,'cause I certainly don't want to talk to you!

This is a CB radio forum....Not a Ham forum.

    WHO CARES????

    That's the "real honest answer".

    Flying Dutchman Thanks this.

I have echo and roger beep and a panther growl and even a power box ,but i never use them until someone starts trouble at the truck stop's. I try to be nice to everyone and respectful but some drivers just want to start something. so i bring out the big guns for a while then i turn the power back to normal.
