For the old truck:
A completely rebuild engine $20k (or $30k for a drop in reman)
Tranny $5k
Rear ends $5k
New fifth wheel, front end, rebuild drive shafts, all new rubber parts, seals, e.t.c another $15k.
So, if you find an older pre 2003 truck with no rust, have it completely rebuild,it will be under $70k. You will know what has been replaced and have confidence in your ride.
Or you can take that 60k and put a down payment for a new truck. Nice comfy ride, warranty and if it's not plagued with problems, ride it for 4 years and trade in for another one.
Anything in between of those two options is just a waste of money IMO. -
im well under 60K into this truck
i think you can tell my answer but its not for everyone. -

From my experience buying new is the cheapest way to go. Get a T680 with endurant 12 speed auto and Cummins X15. Buy the 5yr 500k warranty for good measure.
OldeSkool and KullenTrucking Thank this. -
