Nope. Just plan on doing what I can, not pissing people off, not going above other peoples heads such as my FM, not over extending myself on unecessary spending, that sort of thing. Its trucking, there is no real world number. When its slow, its slow, when its quick and good, its quick and good. To me anyway. No sense in having the "oh crud" attitude. Gonna go through rough stuff anywhere ya go. Trucking right now isnt like it was 2 years ago. Kinda have to take what you can get. I doubt very seriously Prime would even let me lease right out of the gate though anyway. I am sure there will be something that stops me. If they even consider me at all. Still waiting for yey or nay.

They said no to me. Either way, company or lease. I went to Western and I am done with OTR trucking with big companies. They are all the same. All crooks. I will stick with running locally, being home every single day and off weekends. No big deal to me. I have a few places I have worked I could call and go back with no problems, such as the place I am returning to. Last company that I worked for before Western that shut down, they plan on re-opening after the end of the first quarter if economy is starting to turn around to being somewhat decent again. Have good contact with them as well. So I will be alright with OTR big company b.s. Plus many opportunities where I am. Just might have to drive clear across town for a while to get there. -

First of all I would like to say that I have no personal grudge with Prime the fact of the matter is it seems they have added to many trucks and the so called new freight they are getting is so cheap it doesnt support the amount of trucks they have. I came to Prime in 2005 September I have trained for 4 years I get the best fuel mileage in all of my fleet avg of 7.5 mpg but the money isnt consistent. The short leases used to be good 1 yr to 18 months, I have done 3 of them. My last lease when I was finished I turned my truck in and I was $7400 dollars in the hole. Hometime was a dream I stayed out training for 10 and a half months getting cheap loads 80 cents to $1.20a mile it just wasnt enough to be profitable. Success Leasing is successful for them you assume all the liability and the expenses. In 2005 and 06 and 07 the bucks were there struggling through tough winters but coming out in March with decent loads and consistent miles you would be ok. But now the adding of so many trucks its like have enough food for 50 people and you invite 150. So I have to be honest and say most of the lease drivers arent Successful nowadays.
Only a few of the 3200 plus lease operators are making money. So whether you take all the courses or you get the top fuel mileage consistently running 55 mph and training and staying out 3 to 4 months at a time, if the freight rates dont support you the money just isnt there. My last three weeks have been $550 to $580 and in the last three months before the $.95 cents a mile guarantee came out I was in the hole 17 times in the last 6 months. And to think you will ever own a truck is a fantasy it wont happen with the lease payments the highest in the nation and the buyout of $53,000 in this day and time who will go home a owner of a truck. So, now after reading my long post many of you are saying Im full of BS because if all this is true I would have left Prime. Well you are partially right but my rollover in 08 has bonded me with them until my 3 yr period is up. Most big reputable companies wont even look at me till 3 yrs and the other companies will only use me and abuse me even worse than Prime. So, I have to suck it up and this time next year was my freedom card but now I have found a investor who is interested in sponsoring me so I guess GOD showed his favor upon me and Im slowly trying to make the transition from little little money to consistent decent money. GOD willing I plan to be successfulBaack Thanks this. -
I am in no way shape or form trying to solicit or drum up business for him but Paul Taylor out of Minnesota is from a third generation trucker family he is a attorney and he has had several lawsuits on Prime and CR England. He just recently won a suit for a Prime driver who the FM tried to get him to go across Donner Pass in a blizzard when he refused to go he was fired. Paul got a judgement from the judge in favor of the driver of $150,000 pain and suffering lost wages and so on. He is very well versed and he will call you back most of the time in 2 hours on any day of the week even holidays. He is currently working on getting a class action suit against Prime as the Fair Wage Act says you have to make at least minimum wage. BTW the recent guaranteed $.95 rate came as Paul was in the processs of bringing them to the table on this in the hole less than minimum wage issue. My best to all of my fellow brothers and sisters who roam the roads and go where most people have never gone before.

First, I'm sorry to hear about your troubles - but you can't blame Prime for the last year and a half. The entire industry has been hit by the economic troubles brought on by the greed of Wall Street. I'm not necessarily defending Prime either, but the tractor payments are based on paying off the note over a three year period - that will bring a higher payment.
Second... the little dippy who won the lawsuit was averaging 1500 miles per week on a team truck. 1500 miles? WTF was she doing with her time? As a lease operator you know no one is that unproductive even in these times. She had something coming - it's unfortunate that her FM said the wrong thing, probably out of frustration. That's the only reason her attorney won the lawsuit.
Third... the federal government deems that truckers don't come under the fair labor act - so Mr. Jerk Attorney is tilting at windmills and taking advantage of whomever pays his wages. It's not Prime, Swift, CRE, Crete, or any of the large companies who are at fault... its the Congress. Since the law says we don't deserve minimum wage - they don't have to pay us an hourly wage or a salary.
Good luck with your new endeavor.Last edited: Apr 26, 2010
