Are they the guys based out of Mt Airy who run a lot of JIT Fed Ex freight airport to airport? If so they came to the school I went to. One of the better companies from first impression. Sounded like they had a good nitch. At the time I was worried that they might force you to run illegal. If one of those Fed Ex loads is late LC had to pay the postage on every piece of mail in it since it was next day mail that the customer is riembursed for. Part of the application mentioned this. I will be real interested to read more should you start a new thread.

Yep, that is the one. I talked to them about that and got the skinny on that. They have been doing this for years and they have it down to a science. They have extra time built into the dispatch. Basically, if someone doesnt make it there on time, it is because the DRIVER screwed up or there were circumstances (ice, accident, etc) that could not be controlled. I had been doing some research, and they have a phenomenal record with FedEx. Simply put, LC has it together and I am looking forward to being a part of the team.

Thanks Bud. You know DURN WELL I am going to keep you updated. With all things considered, I expect it will be a positive move. They pull mostly reefers, I believe so they can be more versatile. Really doesnt matter to me..... if it has a kingpin, I'll pull it.

But yes, once I get started there, I will be starting a new thread

Supposedly, Tater will be ready tomorrow. I was having problems with the clutch again, and at 8pm tonight, they were putting the transmission back in. I will be loading out Friday afternoon, making my final voyage to Carolina.

I am going to miss the folks at Magnum. Many of them took me under their wing and made sure it worked for me. Above all of them, Duke. You couldn't ask for a better person to be in your corner. A lot of trainers out there teach you and kick you to the curb (or so I have heard). If you are getting into being a Big Truck Truck Driver, PRAY that you get someone half as good as Duke. Words can not possibly express the gratitude I have for this guy.

I am scheduled to start with LC on the 18th, and I am really looking forward to it. A little nervous and a lot excited. Once I get started, I will be starting another thread.

Thanks everyone for participating in my thread. It has been a blast!

    Unbelievably large ARF!

Today was both eye-opening and an interesting twist, to say the least.

(Actually, I am re-writing this post. I had authored one a little more fierce earlier, but I am toning it down a little, because you know what? I am a better person than what I typed before.)

Long and the short of it is that the new hire that was going to ride with me to NC so I could get my stuff out of Tater was given his own truck at his request because he didn't feel comfortable getting in a truck with a perfect stranger. Funny thing was, I spent two evenings with him, having dinner, showing him around, working on his truck, and just overall hanging out together. I thought we got along well, and thoroughly enjoyed his company. I thought he enjoyed my company as well. Guess I was wrong.

Anyway, because Magnum did not want an empty truck in NC, they decided to have me get my stuff out of Tater in Minneapolis and ride with another driver to NC. First they were going to put me with a total stranger (but they wouldnt dare do that with a new hire), but when I told them that wasn't going to happen, we were able to work it out where Duke (my trainer) was going to be able to provide my ride back to NC. Thank God for little silver linings.

That being the case, not only do I have to figure out how to get my stuff into his truck, but I lost out on a 1500 mile designed to get me back to NC. That means I just lost out on $500+. One side of me regrets even telling Magnum that I was going to leave. My other side says, "Do what's right, no matter what". I guess that is the price you pay sometimes. I will say this caught me off guard.

The way I look at it.... this time next week, this will all be behind me and I will be on to bigger and better things.....
    Grrrrr....

Its too bad that some people find it easier to burn a bridge rather than continue to build upon one. A true friend is hard to come by in this day and age for that very reason.

The "Brotherhood of the CDL" seems to be dying. I can only hope when I am ready to hit the road I can meet, learn from, and befriend a true professional such as you, Scooter.

Best of luck to you in your knew job. I look forward to reading about your future adventures.

Oh....You guys did get the money order for the book, right? Let me know.

Random question: Did you get to do many meat loads at Magnum?
