They are both about the same distance, probably going I40. Which do you prefer for cross country travel?

I run Ohio to Southern California semi regularly. I always run the 40. Easy route, able to turn good daily miles, lots of available parking. Can get windy in the TX/ OK panhandle area, but not like some of the wind on the 80 thru Wyoming. I think it really comes down to personal preference. Plus, this time of year, you can still get hung up going thru Donner. Snow is not uncommon in April and May

The only downside I see to running i40 for this run is about $50 in tolls that would be a pain to avoid.

If the weather is going to be ok, I would run 80. About 300 less miles to run in California.

While you would have approx $40 in tolls, the cost in better fuel mpg would offset that plus less wear and tear on the truck. Really depends on which way the winds blow during your transit. Traffic levels would be comparable, except thru Nevada, where you might see less traffic.

Lots of good places to eat on I40 also. Especially New Mexico.

Don't forget Hoods and Dottie's in Missouri!. Also, if you have never been to the Joplin 44 Petro, it is worth poking around in for awhile.
