You have to remember that your job is NOT typical of fuel hauling jobs.

 

It’s about time Truckdrivers make some real wage gains. When unemployment’s high, a lot jump in from other Industries. Not happening now. I doubt it will, till the next recession hits. Won’t be surprised to see work visas increased and extended. The Government always finds a way to keep Shipping Rates competitive. Lumber prices are no surprise. Every so often prices double, because of demand. Never seems to come down. 2x4s used to be .88 in the mid 80s. Gasoline prices have been very low, for a while. I’m surprised they’re not higher already. Definately still going up, at least 20-25%. Before stabilizing. Just a wild guess. Nobody knows.

 

Had been working at a job I loved for ten years, new guy came in at the top and tossed Me overboard the first week so he could hire one of his unemployed college buddies.

A few months later I tripped and fell onto this gravy train.

 

If they are hiring in Florida throw me a bone!!

Gotta get dirty though.

I come home nearly every day smelling worse than a skunk . Silt mud from the bottom of a monitoring well that’s had gasoline or diesel in it for years, reeks like you wouldn’t believe .

I also have to maintain the system that pumps the water out and separates the oil from the water. Which means changing a lot of silt filters . And I have a couple of sites that the pumps get clogged regularly with silt and I gotta pull em out
And take em apart and clean out the sludge. Neat pumps though, that use compressed air to lift the water out and push it to the treatment trailer . Gotta be half mechanic and half detective to keep the systems running.

wife keeps threatening to get a separate washing machine for my clothes .

 

Airlifts are cool! Like those tubes you see in the back of an aquarium, but on steroids. I'm building one for my turtle's tank right now.

Every few months I will get so nasty that I just toss the clothes in the trash before I go on the house.
Couple times I’ve changed at the job site and tossed my clothes in the dumpster at the site.
I learned to keep a couple of changes of clothes on the truck.

the pumps we use are just stainless or fiberglass tubes with check valves on the water inlet and water outlet, have a float in it that when it floats up it opens a needle valve like in a carburetor float bowl, that lets the compressed air in. Which blows the water out through the outlet check valve. Then the float falls back down and closes the compressed air valve and opens the vent tube needle valve, so the compressed air vents out and water can come back into the pump body.
And if the well is slow to recharge or fast to recharge , the pump doesn’t care, it cycles when it gets full of water.
You just have to figure out what elevation you want to set the pump in the well. Figure out how much you want to lower the water table . do you want to pump out a lot of water or just skim the fuel off the top four or five feet of ground water.

Why not have your company buy you a box of tyvek suits to wear to keep the nasty stuff off you? Sound like a great gig though
