I think it is because the legs get abused ,that's why they use those legs.

Airsuspention on the truck would also have done it.

is this necessary for canada some kind of bridge law?

 

We use all kinds of setups in Canada. You can probably haul more on a 6 axle setup like that than a straight truck. This is the only application I had ever seen a lift axle be used in Western Canada.

 

you dont see here snow chains on mixer trucks.
usually no one use concrete below -10c

 

Its law to have chains on a truck from October to March. Depending where you are in Canada it can still be quite warm during that time.

I've seen concrete being poured in -20 or colder temperatures. They tarp in the entire area and use diesel heaters to keep the temperatures above zero.

 

well if you live there, you have to adapt to.
in middle east countries they put ice in concrete
they cool pumps too

 

dont understand why would anyone chose spring suspension for normal on-road tractor.
on 4x2 with spring, suspension travel is huge empty-loaded over 5inch.
on 6x4 it is not that much and unhooking fully loaded trailer is not as nightmare as with 4x2.
i think we have only one 6x4 tractor with springs, which is actually wechselsystem and fifthwheel remain with semitrailer
we do it with springs on 4x4 tractors, which mostly do winterservice, to prevent salt to eat everything.
when 6x4 or 6x6 truck has to pull lowloader trailer (example with forestry equipment) i fit air suspension despite cost to allow some extra ground clearance, since trailers ride 4inch from ground although dont like to put double axles with air suspension if truck needs to do any offroad as you lose a lot of traction.
