Jim, only your recruiter can answer that. That totally depends on your division. You're probably going into regional dry van, which is what they seem to pile most of their "victims" into (Lol, dont worry, im a happy werner driver). I do midwest regional, and im making a sliding scale of 25-45 cpm depending on...whatever button the payroll person feels like pushing for that load I guess. Pay depends on region though. Remember 2000 miles is a good average, most weeks should be more than 2000 miles, some weeks might be a lot less. Also, if they told you you'll be home every weekend, they mean for ONE DAY. And they'll be scared to get you very far from home, so you won't get any miles if you only stay out for one week. Taking every other weekend off works great for me though. I get good miles.
The sliding scale is a bunnch of #### and does nothing but make it impossible to figure out what you're going to earn on a load until you get the check. It's not milage based, I'm honestly about ready to call payroll and ask what the heck its based on. Most weeks i average around 33cpm total, so why cant they just pay me that, as a flat rate? Whatever.
Anyway, Ask your recruiter. They will know the answer. And please, if it is a sliding scale, try and get them to explain it in human terms and tell us! I don't feel like calling payroll! (they dont put me on hold for more than about 5 minutes, I just don't feel like it! lol)

I found out today that i am going to get the money from the state to attend CDL training. It was up in the air because they thought I had made too much money in the past and should be able to pay for everything myself. I told them that I had worked my butt off since I was sixteen and have paid a lot in taxes in my life. I told them that I should not have to wait in line behind anyone to get this money.
I guess my argument was good enough as they are going to put me thorough!
Hopefully I can start next Monday! I am so ready to get stated!kickin chicken Thanks this. -
congrats jim, i tried that with california, and since i made more than 1000 in a month due to my military income when i was on orders for a week, they denied me. I think they need to do away with that, 1000 a month is no where enough to live off of in cali. 2400 is barely enough but it works. But im trained and im happy, leaving for fotana today if the 5 stays open. Hopefully get assigned my truck by tomorrow and get dispatched.

That is excellent! I had a telephone conversation with a trucker from this site who is on a team with his wife. He loves it and loves being at Werner.
It was really refreshing to hear from another person who has been with the company. He has been there 7 years.
I have definitely had my mind set straight about Werner! I am sure people have had bad experiences, but haven't we all!
God Bless! Drive Safe, and keep us Posted!

Jim what school have you decided on?

I am going to Roadmaster her in Columbus Ohio. Hopefully I can start next Monday. Graduate on the 31, Celebrate my birthday on the 6th and start on the 11th!
That is my plan at least!
I must say that I am starting to get excited. I put this plan in motion back in September after a friend of mine who is a driver suggested it to me. I almost brushed it off, but then I said, I think I will check it out. So here I am about ready to start driving school.
If you told me 6 months ago that I would be doing this, I would have told you to quick smoking the whackey weed..lol..
But here I am.
I want to thank everyone that posts here. It would have been a very lonely and scary (still is a little) experience with out all of your input!
And thanks for taking the time to speak with me personally!kickin chicken Thanks this. -
If I would have spent this much time studying when I was in High School, I would have been an A Student! lol

If you would like, start a thread under," Trucking Schools", so that you can post your experiences in training.

Ive been pre hired by Werner. I still have 2 weeks of school left. I set up an orientation date of Dec 28th in Dallas. Not being the man i used to be physically since i'm 50, I was wondering about the physical. I take meds to try to contol my blood sugar level. Kinda worried about this a little.
Are drivers getting good miles after training 300 miles in thier own truck? I'd like to get OTR if possible but was told by recruiter only South regional and dedicated run open now. Seems kinda backwards , used to hear people wanted time at home. Dedicated and regional were always preffered for that. OTR would be out 3-4 weeks at a time.
Boy wondering where to go to work for is a real mind blower.Heard lots of bad things about Werner but my school says it is a great company to go to. Was told no reason to apply anywhere else. Any suggestions?
