Fauci says face masks could become seasonal after Covid pandemic

It's not a benchmark. It's just a thing someone said to generalize the fact. And it is accurate, it's just not restrictive enough for your delicate sensibilities. But get real. Its not like they said something completely retarded such as Obama was born in Kenya and there were no Russians in Trump Tower and Ted Cruz's dad shot JFK and thousands of Americans were shown on TV cheering 9/11 and the noise from windmills causes cancer and the virus will disappear like magic in the spring and they stole the election and the California wildfires were started by a giant space laser and the Texas natural gas lines froze because of windmills.

 

Misleading? No. Saying the virus won't even kill sixty thousand people was misleading. Saying it will disappear like magic in the spring was misleading. Talking people into drinking bleach was misleading. Wearing a mask to a baseball game was not misleading.

Saying that Americans are dying at a higher rate than most other countries because of masks rather than obesity and diabetes is quite misleading as well.

Telling Americans that masks wont help (and then flip flopping months later) is also pretty misleading.

But he did say that masks wont help regular Americans, they only work for doctors and nurses.

Nope what they actually said was there's not enough masks for everyone, so leave them for front line workers. That was during the early days before mask production ramped up to meet the sudden surge in demand.
