First of all, don't just unscrew the 2 Phillips head screws from the outside. It goes against common sense but if you do ( which you probably already did which would be why your here ) you will hear plink plink rattle rattle. That would be the 2 nuts inside dropping to the bottom of the inside of the mirror.
You need to do this job from the inside. Yes it's easy but still a pain in the backside. You'll need to remove the backside of the mirror cover to have access to the 2 screws on the market light. You need to remove both mirrors. It's the same process for the main and spot mirrors. First center the mirror then tilt it down all the way either by pushing it with your hand or by remote. Then push/pull the mirror up releasing it from holder just as if your replacing it. Be careful not to yank the wires for the mirror heat. Unplug the 2 wires for the mirror heat and the mirror is free. It's the same for the spot mirror. Remove 6 torx screws and the CB antenna and the chrome back of the mirror will come right off. Turn the rubber light holder thingy about a 1/4 turn and pull it out. NO NEED TO REMOVE THE 2 SCREWS HOLDING THE MARKER LIGHT COVER ! Just replace the bulb and reverse the process.

They changed mirror suppliers it looks. My 2018 has a couple torx screws on the cover that removes it.

This is one of a few reasons I hate my truck, this is a light, any light should be able to be replaced in under 2 minutes while fueling.

I'll tell you another thing about my 2021, I don't know what happened to the North Carolina factory as I've ordered multiple trucks from them in the past, but this one got delivered missing body panels, with multiple coolant leaks, and a botched paint job. In 15 years, I've never had so many issues with a new purchase before on any make or model. I'm considering switching to Volvo assuming I can still get a 13 speed in one.

Is it the same process for replacement of the marker light in the mirror on a 2020 western star 4700 SF that you have to take out the mirrors

When I found this post I thought I thought I had found exactly what I was looking for. I removed the mirrors on the passenger side but could not find the 6 torx screws to remove. Then I noticed the post about 2018's which is exactly what I'm working on. It's a 4700SB. There are numerous torx screws but none of them look like they might actually be responsible for holding the chrome cover on. Any assistance would be appreciated. 20210521_181528.jpg 20210521_181559.jpg 20210521_181610.jpg

On the front (forward facing) there are two plugs that you pop out to reveal the torx screws that hold the chrome cover on.

Thanks for the quick reply! It's my buddies truck and I'll have to wait until he's free to come by again to give it a try. I thought they had done away with that method so, even though I saw the plugs, I didn't give them a try.
