Looking at your photos.
I see that you did a wrap on some of the pipe near the ends. When doing a wrap like that, instead of going under, over and back under, go over, under then back over. This gives you a twofer. The wrap squeezes the load, and you get down force.
Another thing I like to do is use 4 2inch straps to make bands on the load. I have 4 2inch ratchets with the leads removed. (Take out the bolt/nut, pull the lead off, put the nut/bolt back in. Make sure it is tight and some thread lock) The straps have “J” hooks, these hook on the bolt in the ratchet. Lay the straps across the deck so they are evenly spaced out. Load the pipe or other material. Toss the non-hook end over the load, hook the “J” to the ratchet, feed the strap in like normal. You now have banded the load. This squeezes the load together in a single package.

 

Just following along but I appreciate when y’all post some wisdom! I was hauling the last load of large plastic pipe and there was a a single stack and I really thought of banding it with a 2” but now I know a new trick! Thanks

 

I usually belly wrap the way you're talking about. But with the load so close to the edge of the trailer, I'd get way more downforce than squeeze force. Since I knew I was going to have a lot of straps over the top, I flipped my belly wrap to maximize squeeze force, because it majorly changes the strap angle.

I really thought about breaking out two inch straps to band the top section, because the strap pushing down on the top pieces are causing them to push out against the wedges on the ones below. And they've got more downforce than squeeze force, so the wedges are actually in play, which I don't really like.

They were stingy on the stringers too. Lotta outward pressure on 2 little chocks way up in the air. But, silver lining to only 2 stringers is that the pipe most likely made indents in it which helps (in my book at least?).

 

Just a few ideas. Also noted, they didn’t have a lot of the rope rings on those joints. Usually they have 4 or 5 per. Protects the coating.

How much front overhang?

 

I noticed that too. I've spent a little time around pipeline, and scratching that paint was a big deal. These guys didn't really seem to care.

 

If they scratch it, it’s one thing. If you scratch it, you’re in trouble.

 

They're 53' long, we loaded 1' in front, 4' in back.
