Spinner knobs are good for when you’re doing long distance backing or shutting trailers back and forth all day and don’t leave the rubber smeared into the palm of your hand

I use my knob mainly for shifting while turning. They were very dangerous back before power steering became common. Nowadays mostly OK except for one state in the Pacific Northwest, last I heard.

You can switch to dark screen for night time gps routing. Spinners are great for forklifts.

we called them brodie knobs when I was a kid. 50's/60's. You will see them on heavy equipment front end loaders.

I love a spinner. I use a little short one, just a stub, don't catch it on my long sleeve shirts.

Mine is a 10 inch. The first app is Google maps, then Hammer, TollGuru, EZ Placard, etc. And my home screen is rearranged so all the work apps are front and center and all the nonwork ones are off to the side or on page 2. There's awesome adjustable mounts by a company called Ram, sold on ebay for like $60. I've had mine for 4 years and it still holds position no problem. Spring loaded so you can pop your device out for sleeper or restaurant or whatever. Easy peasy.Last edited: May 28, 2021

Because this thread is old I won't quote anybody. But, spinner knobs are NOT illegal according to any state laws and to the best of my knowledge never have been. They are illegal according to OSHA on Earthmoving equipment as defined by 1926.602 (a). I know of NO law or rule Federal or State that outlaws them for on-road vehicles. However, as already stated some carriers prohibit their use and WILL remove them if discovered!
(a) Earthmoving equipment; General. (1) These rules apply to the following types of earthmoving equipment: scrapers, loaders, crawler or wheel tractors, bulldozers, off-highway trucks, graders, agricultural and industrial tractors, and similar equipment. The promulgation of specific rules for compactors and rubber-tired “skid-steer” equipment is reserved pending consideration of standards currently being developed.
1926.602(c)(1)(iv)
Steering or spinner knobs shall not be attached to the steering wheel unless the steering mechanism is of a type that prevents road reactions from causing the steering handwheel to spin. The steering knob shall be mounted within the periphery of the wheel.FerrissWheel and slow.rider Thank this.
