Well, I guess I'll have to either close out this thread, or rename it...
I just got off the phone with Matt at Watkins Shepard. Due to economic reasons, they are suspending their training school. I had my heart set on their excellent training. However, the news is not all bad. Since I was already approved for employment, I still have a job offer there once I complete my own training and go to their 10 day orientation. Needless to say, I am a little bummed out since I wanted the winter ops training they provide. The good news is one of their "approved" trucking schools in my area is the one I was gonna go to before I found WS. Turns out my recruiter Roxy knows someone there and will let her know I'm gonna be contacting them for enrollment.
The fact they had an executive from the company call me instead of having a recruiter do it speaks volumes about how this company treats people.
I then directly called the truck school only to find out the recruiter was off today and to call her back Monday. 5 minutes later, my phone rings and it was someone from the school, saying he had just gotten off the phone with Roxy. Boy the WS people are top notch. She said what she did and did what she said!
I now have the opportunity to begin training here on Monday, but have to discuss it with my wife as her surgery takes precedence.
I'll keep you all updated on how things go.

-
So what's the first big change?
-
Sorry to hear that for ya Warp, but sounds like you've got a plan b going into high gear. I leave out in the morning for MT so I'll try to keep up from my blackberry.

Understandable....can u tell me if I should be worried about getting hired?
-
I just heard.... Im speechless at this point. I just can't believe they've stopped it. ####.....however. They did say suspended right? I think they've done that in the past during hard times. So this may just be a belt-tightening time for the company and will most likely resume it in the future.
Sorry to hear Warp, you sounded so excited and rightfully so. Just learn as much as you can driving while you're at school. And of course, contact me anytime if you have any questions once you get on the road with W/S, or before that even, if need be. -
Thanks man, I appreciate that. Hopefully they will resume it at some point... I'll send u a PM with my cell number so u have it. I am still looking at about the same schedule.. Starting school here on February 1. One good thing is I will get my doubles and hazmat as part of the school, and since I already have my DOT card and paying cash, I get almost a $500 discount off of WS's price....

Sorry Warpdrvr, you are seeing the gloom and doom of freight which is rare but always talked about. In this field things can change for the better overnight, probably is why they don't cut you off completely instead of just saying keep checking to reapply later. Good luck.

Yeah, I hear you...I know there is a reason this is happening, but it just hasn't been revealed to me as yet....I believe in God and how he has His hand on my life, so I just keep trusting....
Thanks for the well wishes. I'll keep you guys updated
