Hi guys, I have a Detroit 11.1L rated at 350 HP and would like to know what changes I should make to the engine to increase power? Can I convert it into a 12.7L? Should I change the injectors? Turbo? Camshaft?
I need advice how to approach this. I need at least 400 HP so I can run properly.
    Thank you in advance,
    George

The cranks different. Longer stroke. Bore is the same. Rods are the same. pistons probably the same. I’d imagine cam and injectors are different. ECM the same, different program I’d guess. Depending on what you’ve got now. What year etc. You can build one using drilled rods. Some of the blocks had piston cooler nozzles, some were drilled for them, and can be added. I think it’s May of 98, all blocks were drilled. Mid to late 90s I believe is when upper cooling jackets were added to the blocks. You may be better off getting a new block with crank, or a whole engine. Build it how you want. A lot would depend on cost and what you have now. That’s my rough understanding. I think they can program yours to 400 hp. 1350 torque. Without changing anything. No emissions changes either. A little more power, might be all you need. The 11.1 is very good on fuel. Better than the 12.7s Dont burn much idling either.

Cranks different, rod lengths are the same. So pistons, though they have same bore, can’t be the same. Have to be taller. Heads are the same.

Thank you very much for your input. It's a 1997 year model. I am trying to figure out if it's worth to make any upgrades versus changing the whole engine to a 12.7L.

Pittsburgh power can probably get more power. They keep everything legal. They even work on fixing the new emissions engine keeping it legal.

You'd be cheaper buying an engine complete. There are several plug and play options for the post DDEC 2 11.1, and they are quite impressive.
